When EXACTLY do the new A+ Cert exams start? I only ask because I'm starting to study for the current test and don't want to be surprised when they plop Win2k, etc. in front of me instead of Dos, etc. I think I'll be ready in early fall. I'm about to order the Michael Myers All-in-one A+ book. That book is HUGE! Also cost like $60. Oh well, it's worth it.
How long did you guys take to study for the exam? I'll study 'till I ace the practice tests but I'm just curious.

CompTIA has tentatively said the new test will be out around December.
Also, I personally didn't like the Myers book too much. Too big and cumbersome. Check out 'A+ Certification for Dummies' - much more concise and too the point.

I got the 'A+ Certification for Dummies' book for $10 at Sams Club http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif A great book with tons of info in it.

I read that and the Exam Cram book. Together not a bad combination.

Yeah, I would use the "Dummies" book as a second source to reinforce what you learn.
Syngress/Osborne "A+ Certification Study Guide" (I call it "the red & blue book") is also a very good reference but a little boring.
The CDs that come with each of these books contain practice tests.

So CM you would recommend getting another book besides the Dummies book.

Hey Warthog, I'm currently studying for the A+ cert also and am using the "red and blue book". It can be tedious at times, but it covers alot of stuff that A+ for dummies kinda glosses over. On the other hand, the "dummies" book covers stuff like hexadecimals and other things that the Syngress book just barely touches. I'm at the point now that I should take my test because things are starting to blend together... Oh well, one more month o' studying just to make sure I've got everything down pat...

hmmmmmm....I read reviews at Amazon and many said they liked the Myers book and used Dummies as a second, like CMonster said. Now I don't know what to get http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

I was considering studying to get my A+ cert at the end of this summer. I looked at a number of practice questions and they seem fairly simple. Would you advise to take the current test, or to wait until the new test comes out in December? Is there any advantage to taking this newer test, besides that it may be easier (because I possess a greater understanding of present software/hardware) and more relevant?

Hello Warthog, You should study books like Maintaining and Reparing PC'S by Jean Andrews. Also Study the A+ book for dummies a good book. I just passed the A+ test last wesnesday(May 24, 2000), I got 93 in the core and 90 in Dos : ). Also here are a couple of good sites you should look at, they have a bunch of good practice exams.
1.http://apluscentral.com/
2.http://www.examnotes.net/AplusExam.htm
3.http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Haven/8823/a.htm
P.S apluscentral.com is a great site check it out.
Hope this helps!!!!!

**replied to original and you edited your post (good idea) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif**
Wow! Thank you very much!
And by the way, excellent job on your test! How much experience did you have prior to the exam? From some people, I've heard that they looked through a book for a day, got bored with it and took it the next day and passed. Others have studied for months (like I'll do) and pass the exam by working very hard at studying. I want to get a good feel about how hard it is before I take it.
Thanks again!

Hey Warthog, its me again. Check the Phill Evans Braindump it is a excellent braindump most of the questions on my test were from his braindump. I studied for about 2 months. I recommend that you study the A+ for Dummies book which will give you the basics I don't know how much experience you have but it is a good start. After reading and reviewing the A+ for dummies, do a lot of braindumps those really help. When you start getting 90% or above you will be ready. I recomend that you take both exams in one sitting like i did(only if you now your stuff). Its much better believe me!!
Network+ next : ) !!
See you later!!!
