I have a P3 933 coppermine running on a overclock P3BF. Everything is fine, the only thing is that my chip is designed for 133fsb. My question is if I switched to a P3 700E and bump it to 933, would the performance between the two chips be the same or different? Which is better? BTW, what is the best chip for the BX overclock? 700E, 800E??? I have seen some stat saying that the 800E might not be stable at 1066 or whatever. Please give input.

It is better to get the faster chips. They are meant to handle more strain, so they can take more strain!

I wouldn't go with buying another p3 though. You never know how hard it will be to OC it.

um... Seems like this should be in "overclocking and CPUs" instead of in "gaming".

Anyway, why would you want to buy a lower chip in the hope of overclocking it? I personally think that buying a CPU based on what you think you can overclock it to is stupid.

A 700E @ 933 and a 933EB will be the same.

Thats just your humble opinion Greg.

When I buy a CPU, I look for cost/performace, and choose the best one for the best price, but also take into consideration the fact that some CPUs are better overclockers than others. If I had a choice between a 700MHz that can usually run at 800MHz and a 800MHz CPU, I would the 700 and save some money, and see if I could overclock it.

IMHO.

Rember Starmaster has a 733EB and I have a 700E, we bought it for almost the same price, but since I kept overclocking in mind, I OC'ed mine to 868MHz and got more bang for by buck.

Also, you can buy a700E pretested and guaranteed to run at 933MHz for just a few bucks more than a retail 700E. Azzo sells 'em for $179.00 -- a LOT less than a retail 933 will cost you.

After reading Frozen's saga I got one and guess what Frozen? This puppy runs at 933MHz at the default voltage! And, I still don't believe it but it runs at 980MHz (140FSB) at default voltage!!! I am stoooooked. I haven't tried higher FSB's yet -- but since I'm a nut I probably will. And when I say it runs, I mean solid, no crashes. It runs 3D games, everything with no problems. Okay, okay, I'll get a grip. I've stopped. I think I'll go lie down for a while. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
