To me, a really good set of headphones tends to make the game more emmersive. Combine that with the lights off, and you're in. I'm sure alot of late-night gamers would agree with me on this one... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Headphones, definitely. Of course I turn my speakers on too, because I know that my music annoys my teenage daughters and paybacks are a B*TCH aren't they?(20W per channel PC Speakers with a 40W Subwoofer)
Even though I prefer my hip-hop, I'll put Simon and Garfunkel on JUST for them.

As for the headphones, they give you better stereo separation, which means that you can tell much more accurately what direction a sound is coming from. That's something that speakers just won't give you.

Mainly good headphones, if I've got the house to myself I use the speakers for those lovely low freq sounds/vibes that get the table moving. The only problem with headphones is if you get too engrosed in multiplayer and you start laughing or get carried away in tense situations to onlookers it looks pretty weird someone twitching on the end of mouse laughing or talking to themselves for no apparent reason. A bit like someone singing out loud with their walkman & headphones on without realising they are doing it.

LOL, ain't that the truth sns! My mom walked in on me a few times just as I got myself into some serious fire fights in CS. She's overheard some very creative cuss words. Sort of embarassing when it's dinner time. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Headphones only, unless they're acting weird. I've found that my EAX support works much better with headphones, probably due to that stereo separation factor. But once in a while I'll switch back to my speakers, usually no reason for it though, just on a whim.

Another topic i figured would lead to a pretty good discussion...

Some people play video games with headphones, some have speakers ... Which one do you prefer?
I know at most LAN parties they prefer players to use headphones because of the noise factor, but i have friends that use headphones at their house ...

So..Which one do you prefer?

Speakers, but when it is night or to be courteous I use headphones.

I got addicted to the headphones when I first started playing Thief. Lights out, zombies moaning in the abandoned mines...BOO!
