edit: nevermind i figured out that acpi, win2k, and QQ bios aren't really compatible in win2k and this is my prob fixed it though.
I've just reformated and installed everything on my
abit bp6 dual cels @583
13.5gb ibm 7200rpm
8.4 maxtor 5400rpm
creative labs tnt2
256mb pc133
hp 9100 cdrw
hitachi gm 2500 dvd
smc 10/100 nic
it is my server and has been running a triple boot win98, win2k pro, win2k advanced server. it was basically running win2k advanced server 24/7 for the last ~8 months or so. well I tried some new registry hacks to improve performance only to experience some instability. Instead of reversing all the registry hacks I decided to reformat and reinstall. my new partitions are c: fat16, win98 on d:, win2k on e: and advanced server on f:. well I've got absolute stabilty except now UT runs about 20fps slower, apps are slow loading, can't play dvd smoothly etc. and it sounds like my HD is constantly swapping, about ~112mb free physical memory. I thought this performance hit may be due to all the services I had running in adv server. So I disabled almost all the services, sql server etc. and still what sounds like the HD accessing the swapfile constantly. I don't this is a bios prob. because win98 runs UT and everything else fine (DMA enable). I tried win2k pro and still the same results. I've also tried a bunch of different drivers for my tnt2 5.13,, 5.14, 5.17 etc. no luck. everything is set up exactly as it was before but is about 3 times slower? any1 know how to enable DMA in win2k. I've tried the performance option to optimize for apps and not services but that made no diff. thx http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
