Don't feel left out, as I have an entire home LAN (sometimes upto 10 systems) connecting over a single 56K connection (usually 49,333)! However, adding a proxy server with 1 GB of cache storage helped considerably.

Lesser system networked to the big one above (it's a Compack! but it does a fine job):
AMD K6 450 MHz
Voodoo 3 2000 16 MB
96 MB RAM
Aureal Soundcard
7 gig HD
The network is routed to a cable connection (roadrunner!), using a Linksys 4port. The brand name box is a bit slow, but actually does fine with most of the older games and is VERY stable. Still working out the kinks with the Athlon machine, but the Asus vid card and MSI mobo are truly great.
Cheers!

What a koinkydink the phone company's all over my neighborhood tearing things up and going into people's yards for their tele-boxes. I heard rumors that they are laying fiber optics down and improving the phone lines too. There may be DSL yet... mmmmmmmmm http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

P.S. I've got 256MB RAM now, and I see quite a difference in games like D2 where my hard drive used to thrash it is now silent.

Oh, let's see here:
PIII 800EB
256MB PC133 3-3-3 ( http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif ) memory
Intel D815EEA mobo, "customized" by Dell (i.e. they reprogrammed the BIOS so I can't speed ANYTHING up, no overclock, no CAS latency, no nothing, boo hiss)
20GB UATA-100 7200RPM HD, 2 partitions, Linux on the 4GB and Win98SE on the rest
3dfx Voodoo3 3000 w/ TV-Out (The system came with a Geforce2 DDR GTS, but the games I had at the time looked crappy in D3D mode, much better in Glide. But I may go back to the GTS someday soon)
DirectX 8, with no video driver WHQL certification (and none likely to come either, since 3dfx is dead. A moment of silence for the deceased, if you would.....)
17-inch monitor
Soundwave 128 sound card based on a Yamaha DS-XG chip (decent, but not the best)
8x4x32 CD-RW
An old but working 1.44MB floppy
MS Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro (mmmm...... force feedback........)
Generic speakers
MS Intellimouse, considering a Logitech USB optical
3Com 3C905 10/100 network card, and a T3 connection to the rest of the world (I love the dorms.... even if it does get slow during peak hours......)
Games installed as of right now:
Half-Life, with the Counterstrike mod
Unreal Tournament
C&C: Tiberian Sun
Descent 3 Demo
Need for Speed III, Hot Pursuit (nice with the FF Pro, also one of the "looks better in Glide" games)
Jane's Fighters Anthology (nice with the force feedback, too)
F22 Lightning II
Wing Commander: Prophecy (the other of the "looks better in Glide" games)
Descent 2 Demo
Descent 1 Demo
Scorched Earth (this game is AWESOME, DOWNLOAD IT NOW!!!!)
Doom shareware
Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold shareware
Wolfenstein 3D shareware (wow, these are getting OLD)
Crystal Caves
Commander Keen 1-6 (now these are getting ancient...)
And the best game of all time, first played when I was about eight on our Osborne Executive (now THAT was a gaming machine -- text-only, 7.5-inch monochrome display, no PC speaker, let alone a sound card, 64KB memory, no hard drive, what's a CD?, wow), and ported to the PC:
Adventure.
I think I'm having much more fun than I ever should....... I'll stop now.....
Bryan

Hey! before you read these specs consider that I have no money! Also GLide is miles faster than Direct3D and I don't just play games, I also mess around with music programs.
PII 233 @ 240 (soon to be 400)
(dont know mobo, chipset is i440LX)
512kb L2 Cache (why does no one mention this, it is a major factor)
128mb 66Mhz RAM
Matrox Millenium (old 2mb)
2x 8mb Voodoo2 SLI (ha ha I have GLide API)
13Gb Western Digital HDD
Soundblaster 16 (old, soon to be SoundBlaster Live! Player)
Microsoft Home Mouse
Some cheap keyboard
This system may not sound much but it does Quake III, Deus Ex and more. OK they may be a tiny winy bit of jerkyness but it plays surprisingly well. I keep putting down to the much superiority of the GLide API over the crappy Direct3D.
EVERYBODY GET A VOODOO SO YOU CAN HAVE GLIDE!!!!!!!!!!!
