Hi:I played a tons of games ,(shooters type )
and I found that unreal tournament, and blood bath at Red falls is the best shooters I have ever played all my life.
in( unreal) you can Feel the sound of your bullet when you shoot using ur different weappons ,also the same when playing the blood bath at Red falls ,when you use your M-16 to shoot your enemies...any suggestions thanks in advance.

CS is the best game, if you like the feeling of a bullet shooting thru your gun.
You can hear the thunder of an Artic Warfare Magnum from like a mile away, or you can sneak up behind someone and off them with a mid ranged silenced M4A1 so they wont know where your coming from.
Best of all its realistic. People dont get shot 20 times, find health packs and come back for more.
There are no healthpacks. All you can do is buy armor at the begining. Headshots KILL, no matter how weak the gun (Unless you bought a helmet, which will prevent most smaller bullets from killing you in the head). If you shoot someone in the hand, they will loose control for a moment as they shake off the pain, meanwhile thier a standing target. And above all - Kills matter. When you kill someone, they dont just spawn back in and run after you with a pistol. If you die, your our for the round (thats a doubleedged issue..actually thats what detered me from the game at first, but you learn to appreciate it once you get somewhat good).
If you want something a little simplier and doesnt penalize you for not being all that great at shooting games, try out Team Fortress.
Best of all, they both come in one pack. You can either buy Halflife, and upgrade that with Counterstrike and Team Fortress, or you can get Counterstrike at the store, which comes with Teamfortress. For the same price, I would recommend getting Halflife, since the single player experience is VERY good.
You do need to play online for Team fortress and Counterstrike - theres no single player mode.

The best single player shooter I've played lately is "No One Lives Forever" .... graphics aren't as nifty as Quake3 or Unreal... but the gameplay is incredible.
Im a fan of CS but Im gonna have to give the gold to Tribes. Hands down THE best teamplay game I have played on the net.

If you're looking for single player:
Half-Life
Voyager Elite Force
No One Lives Forever
BUT: I tend to favor story/drama FAR more than graphics.
For multiplayer action:
Unreal Tournament
CounterStrike
Team Fortress Classic.

I think the best two shooters of all time are:
Quake1
Half-Life (including any mods)
Warthog

Rogue Spear! (I say that everywhere http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif)
It's pretty much an even more realistic version of CS.

My how quickly we all forgot "Deus Ex"

CS has too many cheaters, I'll stick to TFC thanks. I think the best two games would be Unreal and Soldier of Fortune. As for Deus Ex, even my brand new system won't run it properly, most likely due to the lack of Glide.

I haven't played Deus Ex--HEARD its awesome.
UT and Tribes
I've played CS and TFC and for some reason the packet loss and jumpiness(with cable even) make for an unpleasant experience.

Mike85 is right.
DOOM started it all and although the graphics may look cheesy, you can actually get through the levels in par time.
Still a blast to play and most any non- NT PC will run the game.

Deus Ex has one of THE BEST story lines I have EVER seen/heard/experienced! Being a single player based game, you never talk or hear about it though.
If you like storyline, you NEED this game.
I dont even like calling it a storyline since alot of it isnt linear and you get to pick it.
Racked up over 300 saves in that game, cuz of all the time I wondered 'hey, what happens if I do this instead?'
Newest patch smooths gameplay in D3D by a good margin. Make sure you pick that up before you play if your a non-voodoo'er.
You can try out the demo - Theres two parts with the first stage and the second stage. You can pick 'em up at www.3dfiles.com. (http://www.3dfiles.com.)
Hefty one though...First Demo is almost 140MB. The Demo addon with the second level is about 40MB because the engines already included in the first.
Beats the hell outta HalfLife's single player mission...and thats saying alot.

Agreed Aura. I started playing it on a p3 450 and tnt2, and it ran fine @800x600. But you must have the patch.
Everytime I think it is going to end, something (least expected) happens and I end up going across the globe.
There is a multiplayer patch now, but i reserve Q3A for that.

UT all the way! There's not a single person that plays Quake at our school(or admits to it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif ). All the gamers play UT on the lan, sprinkled in with some Counter Strike.

Aren't we forgetting something? The original, the one that started it all, Wolfenstein! That game was freakin' AWESOME! It may have been primative compared to today's standards, but it still had a great plot and great graphics for the time. That along with Spear of Destiny (the second Wolfenstein game). But there have been so many to come and go that there have been many good ones. Doom. Doom II. Duke Nukem (and all the add ons and what not). Quake. Quake II. Quake III. Half Life (with all add ons and what not). All of those were great games. But I think Wolfenstein could take them all.

My opinion, Unreal Tournament hacked with the latest beta OpenGL drivers and S3TC compressed textures enabled. Also toss in the latest EAX extensions for the SB-Live. I was reading earlier today that the next generation Unreal game engine is supposed to offer a 200-300% improvement in graphics quality and performance.
I also caught a few shots of Wolfenstien-II yesterday on Tech-TV. The graphics are pretty good, and the gameplay appeared fluid with great response.
Catch ya' later,

Unreal Tournament !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can play Ut with new mutators for hours.
Quake 3 A gets boring with the pasing of time.
Definitly UT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This shouldn even be in question!!! UT by far, OK in Q3 just shoot. If you shoot somebody in the foot its the same as shooting them in the head. Mods ohh the wonderful world of Mods, Ahhh the choices. You can play Tac Ops for ever ( pretty much counter strike with much, much better graphics.) But on line sucks, the lag in UT is really not cool.

Interesting....
Some are saying unreal tournament...
Well - are we not all forgetting?? The original unreal had one of the most interesting plots ever. Man, i CARED for those na-pali and those lil' piggy creatures.... such an immersive single player experience.. and i, for one preferred the multi in that to the UT setup...
Also, have to go with Half-Life... its a perfect mix of reality and playability... everything looks crisp and clean.... and all the weapons are well balanced and not too hard to beleive.... (well... there are a coupla exceptions). So easy to play and yet rewards those with more experience... allows you to play at fast non-stop running crazy multiplayer.. or allows for a more strategic, realistic, ducking and hiding, sniping.. etc.. game... i love it.
Dammit, i swear sometime my eyes nearly bleed after hours in halflife.... (sorry - too graphic)....
Trogo.

BAH! UT is great but I say RA3 Dominates. Yes of course the whole BOT function with mutators is fun but with RA3 u get the whole playing with the Mind of someone else. Another reason RA3 is slightly better then UT is the Graphics. Now both games have out standing Engines that other games have used (Q3: Alice,Star Trek elite force. UT: Wheel Of Time). But I like the Quake Character models better then the UT models. Also the taunts for Q3 are really cool to do after u waste a guy with a dead on shot with ur rail gun then go up with ur gauntlet and pummle his body to bits! hehe.

Are we forgetting the world of 2-D platform scrolling games? I think so.....
My vote goes to Commander Keen and the Vorticon series (i.e. episodes 1-3).
And now I'm wondering if some of the posters here were even around that long ago...... what was it now? ten years? Yeah, the "last-modified" date on my Keen2.exe is in 1991..... wow......
OK, reminiscing (sp?) time is over.
