I'm getting very flickery textures and strange 'waves' passing through the ground (imagine a floor acting like an ocean wave) playing Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force.

I've tried using WickedGL with some success to combat the problem, have updated to DirectX8, installed new 3Dfx drivers, tried running with and without anti-aliasing, as well as other tweaks, and turned V-Sync off and on. Anybody had any luck with this?

I've also fully de-installed all drivers by deleting the files at the command line level as well as from the Registry, so i know I've got no carry-over.

Well if you are using the voodoo 5 5500 and having probs then I think I can help. There are a few settings in the newest driver build that this game does not like. You need to turn gaurdband clipping off and 16/32 bit depth percision must be off(I think). Also if you are using the hsr reg patch than hsr must be off. For best results in using your voodoo 4 and 5 you should definately d/l the voodoo4+ runner. It is a nice and small program that runs in the tray and you can use it to configure each and every game you play. This allows you to configure all of your games to runs optimally with your voodoo 4 or 5 without ever having to go into the display properties and/or reboot.

I have been playing DS9 "The Fallen" and haven't seen anything like that. Should be pretty much the same engine,I will look out for it. BTW @190 going to start pushing it a little more. 3DMark2k 3400s last check ran eveything no probs. I have no clue if thats good or not but it's fun trying. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif 4325/5265 Sandra multimedia.

DS9 is based on the Unreal Engine, not the Q3 engine. Totally different beast.

NOne of these worked for me. Good ideas, but I'm still looking at a wacky screen. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Do any other games do this? Could it be related to the video card itself? Or maybe the game? I cant really think of anything else unless its hardware related. Well sorry I couldnt help I will keep trying to figure this one out for ya.

HMMM....Are you sure you turned all of those off? It will do what you are describing if any one of those settings are on. I know that if I have 16/32 bit depth precision on it wil totally mess up the sky image. If HSR is on then all of the textures will flash on and off really fast. And gaurdband clipping will totally lock my system.

Oh and Alice does the same thing with those settings on. The only thing is Quake 3 does not have any probs for me with those settings on. Seems kind of strange to me being they are all based off the Quake3 engine.

But any way I can run Voyager in 1024x768 16bit with all the detail settings on high and 4x aa and all of the voodoo 5 settings on high(except for the problem ones above) and I get no visual artifacts and it runs smoothly at about 45fps. Have you tried reinstalling the game?

I really cant think of any thing else that would cause this for you seems kinda strange to me. Do you have the latest drivers from 3dfx? I use the latest drivers and DX7.oa instead of DX8 because I get a noticable increase in fps if I do(I would say about a 10% increase).

Well hopefully you can figure this out. I would like to know the solution if there is one. GOOD LUCK!

I turned off everything you said--Guardband clipping, depth precision, etc. I've tried DX7, DX8, WickedGL, and every setting I can think of.

Honestly, NONE of it seems to matter.

Ah...Oh well hopefully they can get a fix out for it soon. Im hopeing I dont have this problem cause that game is very fun I actually like the multiplayer better than I do Quake3....it has much more depth to it with all of the star trek stuff it makes you feel like you are actually on tv http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry couldnt be of help.

Well, the Voyager site says that there are known issues with Voodoo5 cards. I'm guessing this is it.

It's not the card--I play Diablo II, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Homeworld, and multiple other games without the slightest glitch. This one's the game/driver interface.
