Monday is a day when each and everyone of us should take a few moments out of our very busy life style. and give thanks and prayer to those that are responsible for us being able to do what we are doing at that moment.

the people in the wheelchairs, hospital beds, homes and at there own homes with constant around the clock care, the blind, the lame. and everyone else that have laid there life on the line to keep us safe and secure.

cause it could have been one of us there instead of them. but, it was them and they did it because they loved and respected our country and the people in it. they didn't ask to be put into that position. but, when they were called on they went.

and so I myself would like to personally think each and everyone of you out there. that are veteran's. for making it safe for me and my family alike. god bless and keep you all.

and I think this covers what hasn't already been said ect.

and jadison, that has to be one of the most precious and sake rate pic's I have ever saw on this whole sysopt board. there is not a pic of a system ever. that could be as stable and powerful as that one.

As we all head out this holiday weekend to our favorite destinations and/or prepare BBQ's, I'd like to ask everyone to at least pause and reflect on its true meaning, which is being diluted in each year's observance. It is not a day of exuberant celebration, but a day of reflection and thanks, a reminder of our own lives and those who willingly threw theirs away in service to God and Country. Something I do for an hour or two that I suggest you could do:

Visit a cemetary, preferably a National Cemetary. Bring your children. Help with flags, lay a carnation on the gravesite of a KIA war veteran who has no loved ones to provide decor. Read the headstones. Talk with the families/buddies of those deceased who linger about, and notice the ages of these heroes. Listen to the wail of a lone bugler playin Taps upon Ceremony end. Fly our flag.
Don't let the commercialism drown out the voices of our nation's war dead, who cry out, "Remember us...."

My favorite line from Saving Private Ryan:

"I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Yours very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln."

In Memory...Thanks for listening everyone, and have a great Memorial Day Weekend. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Amen. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

That's my favorite line too! It's great when he looks up from the paper and is still reciting the quote because he has read it so many times.

You brought up a good point, Toad. Most of my friends think Memorial Day is just another day where we don't have to go to school.

Well Said. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif I agree, the whole line of family on my father's side has been in the military, whether it be the Marine Corps: My father, the Army: My grandfather, or the Air Force: My great grandfather, I'm always proud of what these and all men/women who took part in our Nation's wars did to allow us to be where we are today!
And since I plan on joining the Air Force and becoming a pilot, I will always keep that in mind.
To those who have fought and died for our cause, God Bless You ALL!

Everynight I raise my head to the stars and thank God for the brave men and women who gave there lives so unselfishly so that I may be standing on this ground as a free citizen of the United States of America. However lately I wonder if those men and women gave there lives for a worthles cause. We have a president who couldnt care less about them, and citizens whos primary concern is how much money is in there pockets and that memorial day is just an extra day off work. This memorial day I believe im gonna have to make a little drip to Arlington, then cross over into Washington and just stand and look at all the names of the men who died in Vietnam.

P.S. Does anyone know the title of the song that has the Chorus "Im so proud to be an American"? Also do you know where I can get a MP3 of it? Thanks

Are you thinking about Lee Greenwood?

I was just recently moved by a little weathered billboard, outside the General Store in Humboldt Kansas. It listed the names of those, from their little community, presently serving their country. And that billboard stands there (like those named on it) 365 days a year, after year, after year.

Thanks to all who serve, and have served.

Well considering I'm in the Army, Memorial Day has taken on a new meaning since I joined in Spetember 1989. So it is special to see all of you recognizing our dear vets from the past to present. That is very cool.

You know I normally cannot stand to even listen to what our fearless draft dodging leader says, but I was curious on what he had to say about memorials days yesturday so I forced my self to listen to 5 minutes of his speech and low and behold there he was standing in Arlington Cemetary, and out of those 5 minutes not ONCE did he even come slightly close to mentioning anything about memorial day. He just went on about his lies and propaganda speech hes gotten so good at, and made himself look good. Boy that man has some nerves, I cant wait till hes out of office! That mans been the biggest disgrace to this country.....NM this is a whole different thread.
