I've got Win2k Professional SP1, and I have dloaded all compatibility updates from Windows Update. When I install HL and try to run it, it gives me the error message "Half Life requires Service Pack 3". This is somewhat odd, since HL thinks I have NT4.0.

Im running the default direct x for win2k, and I am not upgrading to dx8, since it has caused me problems in the past.

Please god can anyone tell me how to fix this? Also, if I try to patch the game with the update files, all of them say they are corrupt. Ive had similar problems when this was a 98SE machine, but they always seemed to work out.

Current system specs:
Duron 800
Abit KT7
128MB Infineon RAM
IBM deskstar 20gig HD
SB PCI 128
Diamond Viper 2
