FF9: how to beat Necron the final boss?

Hello there fellow gamers. I got FF9 about a week after its realease in the US. i was hooked like in the previous 2 that came from Squaresoft. i play the game at least 2-3 hours a day and now i have reached the end. my people Zidane lv 63 Freya lv 61 Steiner lv 59 Dagger lv 59. Freya and Zidane have their final weapons and i cant seem to find the magical finger for sale at the Treno auction.

I have tried to beat Necron a few times but he always gets me with the grand cross attack and some other like super nova star thing. so if you have any info on what to do or how you beat him please post a reply. i would greatly appreciate it.

I haven't got FF9 yet,but I do have 7 and 8,but I can say that your levels are too low.Try to get them to level 80 or something.I don't know how junctioning magic or whatever to your weapon and health works in FF9,but make sure you've got good and a lot of magic in it.I think you should get the idea,since you have played 8.

Btw,you can also protect yourself against the kind of magic he uses or try to disable his ability to use magic.You also have try to keep your health filled up.If you loose your health quicker than you can fill it,you need to raise your levels.

Well one thing is for sure i couldnt kick him in the nuts if i tried. hes go these ring things that spin around him and hes got this wierd metal thing around his pelvic area. also i have spent all my time just running around leveling up, cause thats basicly all i can do except for try to get steiners final weapon and do all the little side quests. and there is no junction thing in #9 its all based on abilitys and which ones u want to equip. u are given so many ap points for ur currnt level and i just dont have enough to use all the good abilitys i wanna use. i have ones equiped that nullify petrify,silence,stop,sleep,and venom/poisen and then i just have other little ones that are not that effective. but i thank you for trying.

also i forgot to say was that only one guy u get in the game can use black magic ( like thunder fire blizzard fira blizaga thundaga and things like that) but im not using him rite now. im thinking of going back to using him again intead of steiner cause i have vivi's final staff/weapon (vivi is the black mage) cause im finding out that physical attacks are not as effective as in #8 aginst ultimecia. my meteor magic does around 8000 damage which is good for a low level and my phy dmg is around 2000 aginst this final boss.

no!stick with steiner hes freaking monster compared to vivi.i think hes more powerful than zidane and even kuja himself.i also use zidane,freya,steiner,and dagger(all lvl 90s) and i think its the best set up.you have to sell off all the items you purchased from auction to get magical finger.just sell those items to people near cafe area.i think you are mistaking excalibur as steiners most powerful weapon..well its not.most powerful weapon for steiner is ragnarok(there is excalibur2 but thats another story) which you can get it by chocobo treasure hunting.chocograph #21 i think http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gifbut you can learn new climhazzard(its definately the most powerful skill for steiner) ability with excalibur.for fast lvl up just go to bile island slay some yans there. they give you about 10000exp for each.i already finished the game and trying to get my way to ozma most powerful boss in ff9.

Hey where is that bile island... im running around in memoria just leveling up... im at 71 zidane 64 dagger 58 vivi and 69 freya... freya has a skill that does 9999 damage and using vivi's flare with reflect2x status on he can do 9999 damage too... i have tried selling all my things at treno but the finger never comes up... i will keep trying and maybe i will fight necron without using Zidane... thanks for the advice liljohn... also where is the ocean chocograph treasure i cant find it anywhere, u know the one where its just out in the middle of ocean and says look for a small reif. and i have the Ultima sword for Steiner... where do you get the excalibur? oh yea and really funny Renaissance man (dad ur a real joker)

Hey thanks liljohn, also one last thing... what was your strat to kill those Yans... what i did was do doomsday with Vivi but you need shadow armour on everyone cause this attack damages everyone then i did chery bloosem with freya then just hit em with a normal attack and take em out... but i usualy have like 2 people in the end cause they always snort me away... what strat did you use to kill these little punks. oh yea i have been to playonline.com. thats where i found eveyones best weapon such as the ultima found at the previous location of shimmering island. thanks for the chocograph site i found the ocean one with it.

i always cast dagger's summon odin at beggining of battle to wipe those lil bastards out at once.my odin's death blow rate is almost 90% successful so i can kill most of non-boss monsters with just 1 summon.try to get aroma pouch from ipsen castle if you dont already have 1 so you can learn odin's sword ability for dagger.what does odin's sword do? it gives you +deathblow success rate for odin and enemies take damage if death blow misses.its a must skill for dagger.

Hey liljohn thanks for all your help... i hope to beat the game by Saturday the 23rd cause im getting some more PS games for xmas and i want to be done with FF9 and spend my time playing my new games. Also i found the Ancient Aroma thing and it helps alot. I have dagger summen odin and thin i have Vivi do doomsday then Freya do Cherry bloosem so even if the instant death misses they will die in the next few rounds. Thanks again everyone for all ur help i couldnt of done it withought yea... well maybe but it woulda taken much much much much much much longer hehe.

good to hear ya made it.i finally beat ozma and found all the secrets within the game(took me 80+hours).it was quite an experience for me.i had fun too while helping ya so dont mention it.
