Guys, if anyone can help me I'd be very grateful. Every so often just after I get the "Loading" message in Half-life, I find my character can no longer move. Everything else in the game appears fine but I can't move anywhere. It doesn't happen every time but just say one in ten at a guess. Previously I've been able to solve the problem by going into software rendered mode for a moment and then back into Direct3D. However I've reached a point in Surface Tension where I'm going through a pipe and even software mode won't let me move. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem is and how I can solve it? Please help if you can!
I have PentiumIII 800, 815e chipset, Geforce2 GTS card, upgraded drivers to Detonator3 but didn't solve. I am running latest Half-life from Platinum edition (v1.004?)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Hop

Try OpenGL. It's the games native API. It's D3D is slower and buggier.
Have tried OpenGL, as far as I can tell it is identical to D3D on my machine, and doesn't solve this problem unfortunately. Thanks all the same http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

D3D and OpenGL the same???
OpenGL should look much better! If it doesn`t, then are you sur you`ve set it up right?
What screen res are you running in? Valve says that anything above 640x480 could be buggy and cause unexpected problems!
Did you download any updates? This may help your problem.

I'm just about to finish that game . I have a problem with elevators. I get on they go to the top and then I can't move. (mainly if it load's during the ride) the only thing that work's for me is to jump all the time during the ride. kind of suck's if your trying to shoot at the same time. don't go here unless you really can't beat a level,or get totally lost. http://www.gamersx.com/halflife/sp-level4.asp

Techie Dude, I'm amazed at what you say about OpenGL should be far better than D3D - I'd like to know why it isn't on mine if that's the case! I'm running 640x480 in D3D normally, same if I try OpenGL. But I have no problem with framerate or detail in either mode (software rendered mode is definitely inferior though as you would expect).
For those interested I've got a solution to the original problem. I ran half-life in developer mode and the problem just vanished! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif To do this select run from start menu and type C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -dev
When I loaded the saved game in this mode I was no longer stuck. If you still are stuck you can hit "~" and type "noclip" to pass through solid objects. Once free save and restart game as normal. I got this technical support from the Sierra web site.
Thanks for your suggestions,
Hop

You can add the -dev -console line to the shortcut properties exe line and have the ~ console available through out the entire game if you want. typing god gets you invincible mode. The noclip mode can be tricky at times since you may find yourself easily lost within the current map. Move carefully and use it for short periods at a time.
