Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone had quick and dirty instructions on how to set this up?

Thanks!

I am only assuming it would be similar for UT (I do not have it). Hope it helps if u have not already worked it out.
I'm going off memory here ok from when a friend would play me at quake2.
In 98SE or ME u need to have 'dial-up server' installed. Open 'Dial up networking' - under connections on top bar select 'Dial-up server' - allow caller access. Start game - multiplayer - make game.
The other PC/modem needs to go into their 'Dial-up networking' and 'make new connection' - enter your phone number - double click on it (may need password depending on whether u set one in the first place when u allowed caller access) - when it logs onto yours they can start the game - go into multiplayer - join game it should find yours.... Of course if your friend has a faster pc it may pay for them to be the server and u to make a new connection to the other pc.

You know, you COULD just open "Run" and run winipcfg to get your IP addy then one of you be a server and the other connect to that IP. I am aware that dial up modems change the IP everytime you connect. But since this is one session, it shouldnt matter.

direct modem to modem gaming when they are in diff states will cost you a fair amount in long distance toll charges...

Just dial up to your normal ISP. Then, one of you needs to be the host of the game and the other the client.

Find out your own IP address, and send it to the person who will be the client.

Start UT, and select Start Multiplayer game. Set up all your options (add bots too if you want) and then start the game.

The client should allow you a couple mins to get the game started, then they need to join the game using the IP you sent them. I think it`s under the Multiplayer menu / open address. Something like that!

Anyway, doing it this way won`t cost you anything other than your normal ISP costs. Make the faster computer or the computer with the fastest connecition the Host.

If you add a few bots to the game, it`s pretty good fun!

TD.

Hi,

First, thanks for the replies. I should have been more specific with my info but I was looking for some general info. The set-up is one of us is using a modem and the other is on ADSL. The reason I asked about modem to modem is in case I ever play with someone that has a modem. ADSL starts a multiplayer game and when I open the location with his IP I get the connecting to unreal://ip.ip.ip.ip/etc message and the game just sits there. We've tried the other way where I start the multiplayer and he connects to my IP (ipconfig) and the same thing happens. Any ideas?
