Okay, so my roommates and I had a barbecue Friday. Lots of fun, friends, food, music, movies. But now my barbecue's grill has that hardened burnt grease on it. Is there a really good way to get this off? I tried soaking it in hot soapy water, but it didn't get it all off. I tried scraping it with a knife, and it still didn't get it all off. I'm thinking I'll just leave it be. Is this okay? It won't kill me, right?

Did you try a wirebrush in conjuncture with a good soaking?
Next time use aluminum foil over the grill and poke holes in it.

The gunk on it will notharm you in any way, especially since the grill is heated to a point where all germs will be killed.(unless you are preparing sushi on it LOL)

use a wire brush and oven cleaner. Heat ut the grill, then rmove the dirty part and spray then with the oven cleaner (away from flames) then allow the cleaner to work and then scrub and rinse.

hope this helps,

Leave it be,"it adds flavor". "It will burn off in time".

I too vote you leave it. I've heard from more that one person over the years about this subject, and most backyards chefs say it does add flavor. It's one of the "secrets" of barbecuing.

Some cons are if you don't use it frequently it will mold and the moisture in the juices, grease along with the salt will corrode your grill. Also if you use a gas grill you will frequently get flare ups and that causes burnt food http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif blah!!! But hey, if you cook on your grill every day, maybe, just leave your grill on for a few minutes after you cook.
