I have a 20.4 gig maxtor diamondmax UDMA 66 7200 rpm drive. Installed on a promise ultra 66 card.
My drive seems to work fine, but when i put it on the motherboard IDE (udma 33) it tells me in boot up that their is no 80 pin cable installed. i replaced the cable and the same thing happened. the drive works perfect, but to be safe i emailed tech support and they said it was a "known issue" and that i could return it to them for a replacement drive. I figure why not get a brand new hard drive.
But is it worth the trouble? will i get my new drive in timely manner? anybody have experience with maxtor?

I had a 7.0 gig maxtor go bad on me about 2 years ago, I had some clusters go bad while still under waranty. I called the customer support and they sent me out a new drive that day and all i needed to do was send my old one to them in a certain time frame (30 days maybe), and I got my new drive 2 days later. BTW they sent me an 8.4 gig to replace my 7.0 gig.

I have sent two drives to them and had excellent response. Like Famir I dent a 4 gb in and got a 6.4 back. Not a bad deal. The other drive was replaced equally. Good luck!

I had to return a 20GB Maxtor. I would recommend that you secure one via credit card if you are in a hurry. It takes a while to get it there and for them to send one back. It took about 12d to 2 weeks to get the new drive. If you secure it it will take 3-5 bus days and you send yours back to them in the box they send you. BE SURE TO PACK IT WELL!!! Like the way it was when you bought it. If you send it back to them in styrofoam peanuts or another poorly packed box, they will stamp it as warranty void and send the broken drive back. It has happened to people on this board.

I have a 15GB Maxtor Diamond Max HD, just got it a couple of weeks ago, so it's still in it's infancy stage http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
But so far, so good!
It seems to be running alot faster than my Western Digital 6.4 Gigger...

I also had to RMA a drive to Maxtor and had no problems with them. If you have a credit card they will send the new drive first and then you could send the old one back in the box they send you.
