I play Counterstrike a lot. Recently my computer went down and I had to reformat HD , etc. Now when I play the game I cannot get the mouse to hold still. I use a Razer Boomslang 2000 on a usb port. It uses to work great. I could increase the sensitivity on the fly. Even though I can still do that , I can't seem to hold the mouse still for lateral movements. Anyone got a suggestion.

Boomslangs have balls, right? have you tried cleaning it?

Sorry, that was too easy a solution. Mouse is real queaky clean. Besides my other mouse (ps2) does it also but not as bad. TWM

I don't know why it would matter , but Win 98 is my OS. ANy Counterstrike fans out there with a boomslang please answer. This is hurting my frag counts. TWM

wish i could offer advice better than this...but maybe try reducing sensitivity to see if that clears it up some, and then slowly increase sensitivity until it is fast and still controllable...

Well , the point is prior to my reformat the mouse sensitivity could be turned up all the way and I still had no problems. Yes , now it is slightly more managable with the sensitivity turned down but it seems the longer the game is played the worse it gets. Strange? I tried to update my ISDN modem with new firmware about the same time and it wouldn't take. I'm wondering if that is the problem. When I reinstall my newwork card I will try the game on the network and itf that solves it then the modem may be suspect.

try just playing one player half life and if the problem is not occurring then, then you know it is network issues

What are you using between Direc3d or Opengl??
Becasuse if you are using Direct3d i would enter this line the CS config.cfg in the CS dir. "gl_d3dflip 1" whitout the quotes.
this fix some lag whit input on some computer (mouse, keyboard ect...)

Thanks for all the input guys but I figured it out by a process of elimination. It was my ISDN TA adapter. When I replaced it the problem resolved. Funny , the previous faulty one will still download files fast and connect well. Anyone wan't a good TA that won't play games well?

Well , time to start over. The new TA adapterdid not solve the problem. The reason I thought it did follows. What now happens is the mouse works fine for 15-20 minutes then I have to slowly reduce the sensitivity in order to play. Eventually I have to quit and start over and the whole thibh starts again. I contacted Razer who is sending me a new mouse. Does anyone think the mouse itself is the problem? I'll let you know when it arrives. Stay tuned.

Nah - that sounds like a driver problem to me. Or the utility that allows you to adjust the sensetivity on the fly. Have you tried installing a different mouse?

Tried the latest drivers. Does not help. A regular mouuse does the same thing but to a lesser degree since the sensitivity is less. TWM

what about removing and reinstalling the USB drivers(not the mouse driver, but the USB support in windows and let it refind it...)? might not do a **** thing, but it is worth a try...

That doesn't work but interestingly a new Intellimouse with the Intellieye works quite well so I will await the new Razer and see what happens. Until then I can get by with this mouse. TWM

does it happen in all HL games or just counterstrike? um... its not the guns recoil, right? hehe

It happens in al HL games whether counterstrike or TF. It does the same thing on the brand new Razer 2000 they just sent me. So far I can play the best with the Intellimouse but it still occurs. No , its not the recoil ):
