When I run Halflife, the mouse doesn't respond like it should. It feels delayed. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Thanks. J. Ciolkosz Szech 08-21-2000, 07:32 PM In the control settings, if you have "Mouse filter" enabled, it takes the average of the last two readings. What does this mean? It'll take more movement to get the crosshairs where you want them at first, then you'll have to stop moving the mouse sooner to get them to stop where you want them. Of course, two readings are done very quickly, so I don't think too many people notice much difference with this setting... but I do. I honestly don't know what good it is. Also, you might want to check if mouse acceleration is enabled in your mouse settings, although I would expect Half-Life to turn that off. Josh42 08-21-2000, 08:15 PM Azech, Yeah, I played around with that 'average mouse setting' too and don't like it too much. After tinkering with it a bit more I'm sure this has to do with my video card. When I put it in Direct3D mode the mouse gets delayed. The alternate, (OpenGL) fixes the mouse but causes the game to get very dark even when the gamma is at full. Perhaps you could shed some light on this problem (no pun intended)? Thanks. J. Ciolkosz Szech 08-21-2000, 09:09 PM OH! That's an easy fix. Go into the console and enter these commands (With openGL enabled, that is): GL_OVERBRIGHT 1 and if that doesn't toast your bread, then you can actually set the gamma and brightness higher than is available in the settings. Just type GAMMA # and BRIGHTNESS # Where # is any number. Note that the sliders go up to three, I think, and anything above 10 or so screws the lighting up pretty bad, and can cause some wierd effects. You will probably have to restart whatever level you're on before the changes take effect. Enjoy! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif MadMatt 08-22-2000, 02:31 PM This is a known issue in HL running in D3D. The fix is to put the following line into your config file: gl_d3dflip "1" This helped the problem for me but it still seems to happen on certain maps. Josh42 08-22-2000, 03:35 PM Well, I'm fairly new to Windows so you'll have to help me. What do you mean by 'console' and/or 'config file'. Where do I locate these. Szech 08-22-2000, 05:44 PM You can get to the console by hitting the ~ button while in game. There, you can just type in the commands to enable them. Also, since some of the settings do require that you restart the game, that command is! ... restart Warthog 08-22-2000, 07:34 PM nonononono....hold up a sec. It's not as simply as hitting the ~[i] key. You have to type something after the [i]exe in the shortcut, right? I haven't played HL in a very long time, so maybe one of you dedicated fans could help him. Warthog washe 08-22-2000, 10:46 PM To open the console you need two things your hl cd, and also go to the shortcut of hl, and edit it, add the following command to the run "-console" (without the quotes). then start hl with that shortcut, be sure that the cd is in, then when the main menu show there will be "Console" above new game, or go inside a multiplayer game and press ~. by the way hl = Half-Life. Hope it helps you [This message has been edited by washe (edited 08-22-2000).] GhostAgent 08-23-2000, 11:48 AM You know how to fix the D3D problem???!! Exactly which "config" file are you talking about? I want to get this fixed because I'm stuck with openGL (which isn't reelly that bad, but im sure d3d would work better). washe 08-23-2000, 05:37 PM what kind of 3d card do you have? maybe you can change your gamma via software. Szech 08-23-2000, 06:42 PM You need to add the -console parameter if you want to be able to access the console from the main menu. Otherwise, you would have to start a game and hit the ~ button (by default) in order to get to the console. chuckiechan 08-23-2000, 11:32 PM Do you have the latest HL patch? You should have at least Version V41/1.1.0.0. Also, what video card do you have? neo_otyugh 08-24-2000, 05:22 AM most current patch is 1.1.0.1 if you video card is capable of it opengl will render the fastest frame rates compared to direct 3d and and software modes. for a complete list of half life and tfc console commands go to http://server.counter-strike.net/gencmd.html , it may be missing a few but it is the most complete list i ahve seen yet. if the mouse seems to not function well...i was wondering if you saw smooth motion or if it is jerky as well?? Josh42 08-24-2000, 12:58 PM Well, for all you that want to know, I fixed the OpenGL problem. In the properties menu you need to add a space before you type "-console", so that it looks like this, "\half-life\hl.exe -console". Some internet searching gave me that. My video card is a voodoo3 2000 agp and I am not connected to the internet with that computer yet. For whatever reason that config file for d3d and the mouse didn't work so I've been running in OpenGL and it's been fine. Thanks to everyone who helped. J. Ciolkosz Szech 08-24-2000, 05:23 PM Josh42: Just for future reference, no 3dFX cards except for Voodoo5 support Direct3D. SysOpt.com
