diablo II probs with a geforce card

Hey my friend is having troubles running Diablo II on his machine, he has athlon 700, 128ram, Geforce card etc... The game runs pefect when using software mode, but when running in direct3D mode he gets all this weird *** **** happening, video clips during begining are played ok but when it comes to the menu etc... its just a bunch of ****, blocks, n colours all over the screen, can hear the music in background perfectly still. Is it something wrong with his geforce? drivers?? or just a bug in diablo II which can be patched??? any idea's would be much appreciated. His card works fine in all other things i had a look at including Mechwarrior 3, which i pre t sure uses direct3D also. Thanx alot!
