Warcraft2 over the internet

my friend and i are trying to find a (free) way to play war2 over the internet. neither of us want to buy the battle.net edition. all it would have to be is a way to emulate an ipx network over an tcp/ip network

Well you guys do need at least one War2 CD, Battle.net edition or not. Have you tried either www.zone.com (http://www.zone.com) or www.heat.net (http://www.heat.net) ? I have used both in the past, although it can be tricky to find "The Craft of War" on the Zone. Both are free, altough the lag times on a 56k connection could be better. Good luck.
