Hey guys,

Ultima Online has setup serves in Europe, so I was thinking about buying the game. It is very cheap compared to other "rpg" (which are far from being rpg) games. Since I was a kid I am addicted to the world that Origin has created, and Ultima Online is a good opportunity for me to share my enthousiasm with other people.

However, I would like to have some feedback from those who have or have played the game, since I was pretty much dissapointed by the last two Ultimas from Origin. Is UO a true RPG, or is it more an "action" character game? Is it worth the monthly fee? Are there any players actually playing it, or you end up following quests and killing NPCs? Can you play it over a home LAN? These are some of my questions, but feel free to add any comments you want.

Thanks in advance,

MASTOURA

My brother is addicted to it. I have one character on one shard. It is his account so I pay nothing for it. I really enjoy it when I am able to play.

As for the game. Quests? There are quests? I have never seen anyone on UO on any kind of a quest. Duels, wars, treasure hunts, PK'ing, and messin around with newbies is about all I ever see done. I haven'y played much at all this summer and they have been changing a few things. My brother whines about some of the changes but hasn't come near quiting. Here in the US, UO is quite populated. There are always people on.

If you do play, trust no one. Unless you know them in person, then maybe. Hopefully there is someone you already know who plays who can help ya out a bit. I just love helping out the new characters I come across.

If anyone plays Baja and hangs near Minoc---Lookout for "The Intimidator" (I know, a newbie UO name, but he is my only character lol"

Gomer,

thanks for the fast reply. After doing some reading, it seems that UO creates a REAL environment for players. As you said, "trust no-one" sounds very real-life. In addition, it gives the player TONS of options, from building a house (or eventually a castle) to becoming a tavern keeper.

I am pretty sure there are quests though. I read it at http://www.uo.com They say that these help the newbies get initiated to the game or something. However, I guess no-one takes them seriously. Who wants to play against a computer, when he has the chance to interact with hundreds of players at the same time anyway?

You know what? I think I'm gonna buy it tomorrow and give it a shot. What the heck. If I don't like it, I won't buy more time http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

PS: Funny, now I re-read my post, it sounds like an advertisement for UO lol. I think I like this game too much, even before I try it!!!

Yeah, you can get a house. There was formerly one world, but land for new building became scarse. So now they have mirrored the old land. It is configured the exact same way, but with a different sets of rules. They pertain to PvP and such. There is also a new rule of one house per shard. This helps to aleviate overpopulation.

I really don't think too many people pay any attention to the quests. I dunno how much fun you would have as a tavern owner. Mainly you will just find some friends and pal around doing the things I mentioned in my above reply. It really is fun though. There are some real unique (crazy) people on there though. One of the guilds is composed of people who dress like orcs and they even speak thier own languge. I have also seen pirate and ninja guilds.

They do have a new way of breaking people into the game. Instead of thrusting them right into the fire, they let them warm up a bit. Even iif you find no one to pal around with you will still find ways to have fun. There are many options for character developement and I have seen them all used. oh ya, READ THE BOOK. That is key. It is big, but you must do it! You will be lost without it.

I played since Beta. Just cancelled my account a few months ago. The game was really fun to start out, but they have done SO many patches, and changes SO many skills that it just got to be too much.
Gave all my items away and sold my houses for a total of $1350.00 Yup, I guess the game paid off http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I still have my account incase I ever get the urge to go back. I highly doubt that will be happening anytime soon.
Just remember, UO isn't free. You have a monthly payment to play.

I'm waiting for other games to come out before I play another game like UO. Ashrons Call, Everquest, those games just don't do it for me either. Neverwinter nights. now THAT I am waiting for http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My opinion has been said
