Hi,

One of my PC's has had this problem now for a long time and so I thought I would try and get some help.

The PC is a pentium 200Mhz running with a Diamond monster 2(voodoo2) graphics card. Although I know that is unimportant. Basically you start playing half-life and depending on what resolution you use, after 1-2 minutes it will hang and any sound playing at the time will loop over and over. I say depending on resolution because the higher the resolution, the quicker it hangs. This did happen with Quake 2 for ages and so I installed every patch as they came out and after a few months one of the patches worked. Quake 2 suddenly started working fine.

I have tried all the patches for half-life but still no luck. The problems seems to be CPU related as I can swap the P200 for a P120 and the game will run forever with no problems(although obviously pretty slowly on a P120).

Does anyone have any ideas? I've looked all over the place but can't find anything. I did find someone having the same problem but they had no ideas either. I'm missing out on some Half-life multiplayer action here.

Thanks in advance.

to me it sounds like a video problem...but i am not sure..
one thing you can check is to see how hot your video card is getting...possibly mroe cooling might help some...

Have you checked for newer drivers for everything? Most importantly, the video cards? Both the Voodoo 2 and the other card.
