I hate Creative Labs;

I bought their CDRW 4224 only to find that their customer service told me I could backup Playstation games with it. This drive doesn't backup PS games properly, even with the firmware update! The firmware update makes the system hang when done. Also; they "tried" to sue Aureal, but lost. However Aureal was driven into the ground.

Sony.

Why?...two words: Proprietary Blows!

They killed the entire Betamax format because the greedy bastards wouldn't allow for other manufacturers to make Betamax devices. And they still pull the same **** today (with "Mini-disc" and other bs). You'd think they'd learned their lesson.

This hatred extends to all computer makers that try to pull this "proprietary" ****, like Compaq, Packard Bell, HP, and I'm sure many others. Screw'em all! I build my own.

Compaq
Proprietary this, proprietary that. Huge amounts of bloatware in todays systems and yes, they put out Athlons, but the mobos are so unstable it is giving AMD a bad rep.

Compaq, see above.
And that stupid "quick restore" BS.

I hate any Proprietary system because you cant do any thing with them, no good upgrades cant change motherboards or anything else that makes them better,
almost all the time there tech support sinks

All

"Brand names" is a pretty neat trick by producers, but that doesn't mean we consumers should be easily fooled. If they made a couple good products, that doesn't imply they won't screw you. Just read all the consumer horror stories. So, since I dislike any tricky marketing tactics, I dislike brand names.

Gateway.
Too many family members of mine have bought their PCs JUST because it looks like a COW! That ought to be you're first clue there.
Then they brag to me about their "Gateway Essentials PC".

Uncle - "yeah, just spent $3000 on a new gateway computer. It's great"
Me - "Wow"
Uncle - "it's top of line too, printer, scanner, everything"
Me - "Neat. What are the specs? Processor, ram, video, etc."
Uncle - "Uhh, hold on lemme check. (reading) XT579DoubleD. The lady on the phone said it was top of the line"
Me - "Uh huh.. (walking away)"

Diamond: Took five weeks to get my video card back for repair, spent over $1000 Cdn in just over 1yr on Diamond products and they couldn't even email me back. Thats OK. I upgraded about $2000 this year and Diamond didn't get 1 cent, and they never will!

Norton & Symantec

...for duping the public into thinking that they really need all these worthless and system invasive/resource intensive "tools" (so-called); for creating products that have to be uninstalled in "Safe Mode" - and you better not remove the shared files ..for.. fear.. of.. taking.. your.. system.. down.. with.. them...

In truth, most of the tools you need to maintain your system are already there..

even (and especially) NAV could be less invasive...

Oh and don't even get me started on "Crash Guard" - a program that lets you know your computer has crashed...! - ha! ..thanks..

For me that would be IBM/Cyrix!!!

Because they made just about the crappiest cpu I have seen in my period of computerstuff and learning that these thingies are the following:

1> Perform on PR rate, 333 is actually 250
2> They run at 2.9V, like an oven in your pc
3> Overclockers nightmare, be glad with +50

That is why I think cyrix is the one and only(noy exactly the only, but ya know what I mean).

Cmonster; You reminded me about McAfee. McAfee appears to be worse though. The only Software that hasn't screwed up my PC from them was Uninstaller. Uninstaller has actually helped me out of a few jams, but if it wasn't the first thing I tried from them, I would probably have never found it. Use at your own risk!

Probably Compaq because of everything written above, especially the Restore Disc: ahhh! I'll throw in FirstAid as well: pretty useless except to test your speakers!

3dfx...flame me! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I don't hate them, but I don't like how they've been lagging behind the industry and then belittle the company's that are pushing the industry forward.

They're kind of a joke now. That doesn't mean I wouldn't take a v5 (either or them) if someone handed me one though!

I guess I don't understand the point to a pointless rant thread like this.
