For me it would be starcraft back at Georgia Tech, we would play 8 way matches in the dorms for 20 straight hours sometimes. talk about geeks.
Incidentaly, I got Everquest back in the beginning of february, I have played it for a total of 4 days, 4 hours and 32 minutes in real time. Wow. When you put it that way, its kinda scary what I give my time to.
Games are fun...but food is better.
The longest I've had a game running would be about 8 hours....civ2.
After that long I start getting restless and have to do something, anything else....like eat. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hmmm... Back a few years ago, Aces over Europe, from Dynamix. Awesome game back then. Played it for 10 hours every saturday for a month, played it a lot for 6 months. Awesome game....
Do you need an emulator or something to get older comp games to work on new systems?
I played Aces over the Pacific a LOT. That was an amazeing game back then.
About that emulator, if you're talking about how some old games run too fast...I once had a program that would effectively lower the speed of your cpu. I belive it was called "cpu kill" or something like that. Ha, I had to use it for space quest 6...there was a point in the game where it would crash because the cpu did something too fast.

Used stay up all night every weekend when I was 12 to play Wizardry on my apple2c compatible laser computer (too bad I sold it). Start after dinner (7:00PM); fall asleep in the morning (7:00AM). Every weekend. What else you got to do when your 12?

Doom 2, 20 minutes sessions thru each level.. what an overnighter that was.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
i played ut for 6 hours staright then i was too stiif to move, and my eyes hurt they were watering a lot too... perhaps if I had a better chair and video card / monitor combo I could play for longer...

Probably one of the old Forgotten Realms series (most likely Pool Of Radiance), on a C64 at the time. In the summer as a kid it was too easy to fire it up first thing in the morning and play it until dinner...

Continuously would probably go to Need For Speed High Stakes. I know I played it for 7 straight hours the first time, and I think there were a few days I played it for 10+. There was no game like that one. Thankfully, that only lasted a month... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I think the game I've played the most is an old EGA/VGA 5-on-5 basketball game - Magic Johnson's MVP. It was a blast on my VGA 386. I probably played 20-30 10-15 game seasons plus 5 game tournaments for every season (I was undefeated for 11 straight seasons once, including tournaments).

LOL Joel http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif A few nights ago my wifem daughter and I got to playing NSF III and played for almost 3 hours straight over the network. (only quit because it was WAY past our daughters bedtime when I finally checked the time!)
But back to the topic of the tread..For me personally it was about 6-7 hours of MechWarrior.

i think one weekend i played TFC for 8-10 hours or so..and i only stopped cuz i got this strange blind spot right where my sniping laser usually paints. I ended up having a migrane an hour later, which lasted for the rest of the day..

You are all computer geeks. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
I think the longest I've played any one game (in one sitting) would have to be any of the Monopoly marathons I enjoyed in my pre- & early teens. As I remember, 12-15 hour games was usually par for the course.
And yes I'm talking about a real, physical, (analog) board game. Ya know, with real game pieces you can touch. And real opponents (that you can get highly peturbed with).
After the Monopoly phase, came a few years of World conquest...RISK! I seem to remember some of those games also going 15 or so hours as well.
...hmmm, does "head games" with a girlfriend count?
Computer games...
hmmmm a choice between...
1)Civilisation on the Amiga (mostly because of the strain of swapping 8 disks) 8-10hr sessions
2)X-Com UFO Enemy Unknown on the PS (all night on several occasions)
I have a job and a girlfriend now, so it's not possible to do that anymore...
Analogue games? well I used to play Warhammer, AD&D and DM Cthulu ("Dead? Oh no, it's much worse than that!"), so that could go on a while, and also used to do historical re-enactment (dressing up as Vikings and hitting etc other with blunt swords...) - we had long weekends of that stuff, for public shows, camping out, drinking, fighting, craft demonstrations, etc... guess it was a kind of game http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Must admit, I got a lot of hours out of the 'ol Sega Genesis, around 17,520 total!! The longest I played a game was maybe 6-8 hours, Sonic the Hedgehog ruled!
As far as puter games:
-Raptor: Call of the Shadows
-Dynamix (an old one)
-Tornado (old flight sim)
-Lemmings (it was addictive, I admit)
-Solitaire (pathethic playing a card game, but hey, it was also addictive!)
-Super Munchers (that was an old one, when I was a kid)
-Doom
-Indy Car 500 (an old 486 game, I think it only had 16 colors total!)
-Jeez Ball
-Ski-Free
- Dave-Dude
-Quake 1 (only addictive until I beat the game the first day)
And that about does it, so far...
-jd-
PS. ALso, if only there was an easier way to play games on the puter laying down (facing up). If I had enough $$$ I'd get
-(VR)-, that'd be sweeet

I don't know the exact times on any of these, but here are some of the ones I used to constantly play.
Megatraveller 1&2. Anybody remember these?
Star Control 2. Another oldie but goodie.
Total Annihilation of course.
Homeworld more recently.
Outpost a while back.
Phantasmagoria. Anyone remember it?
All of the ***** Quest Games from Sierra.
Doom 1&2 once I finally had a computer that could handle them.
Baldur's Gate recently.
NFS series.
Quake 1-3
I'm sure there's others I don't remember.
Yea Jurassic Park on SNES--20 hrs.No way to save so you had to keep playing til you won, which I couldn't do.I think the cartridge had a flaw,I got to the raptor eggs and tried everything and couldn't kill them---aaarrgghh!

Any one remember the MegaTraveller CRPG games by Paragon software before they went bankrupt about 8 years ago?? I played MT2 for aroung 8 hours one saturday... I remember starting at around 8 AM and checking my watch a "few" minutes later.. it was like 3 PM.. and I played till around 8PM (or later).. and about the food... hey who need's food when you have a 486 33 with 256 color's and you are like 12 or 13... it took me over a year playing like that a lot to beat that game.. the hardest sense Sierra's Gold Rush way way way back in the 80's... space quest 5 and KQ5 all took about 3 weeks part time... they were sssooo cheasy....

I'm kinda surprised that no one has mentioned Thief up to this point. I loved that game!
When I first got it...there were quite a few nights where I played *ALL* night. No lights on in the room and playing with the headphones on. And on certain levels, that setting really pulled you into the game!
For those of you that have played Thief before...I'm sure you'll agree that the first time you encountered a spider (which are about the size of a small dog, lol) and heard them *HISSSSSSS* and then the clicking of their legs as they come after you...I think that was the first time I was actually *scared* by a game.
Now that Thief II is out...I'm sure that I'll be losing more sleep again. heh heh..

Yeah, it's Starcraft for me too. 8 people in an enclosed computer lab(didn't know if it was day or night out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif ) Those 16 hours went by pretty fast! Didn't think I could play and eat at the same time! We only played about 7 games too! That was waaay fun! Now I'm working on Unreal Tournament! 12 people just running around shooting each other, then trash talking them? Too fun!

I played Starcraft Brood-war Expansion non-stop till I finished all three of the new campaigns for about a minimum of 48hours straight.Except for getting up to pay the pizza guy and going to the toilet it was a straight 2 days at least. My parents were on holiday so I gotta wasy with it but my eyes were blurry for about a day and I got RSI in my elbows from the keyboard and mouse.
Might seem pretty extreme but i had to finish the last level and it took dam near 6 hours.
Someone else should try that last level on the zerg campaign and see what it takes them without cheats.
Thank god I did it the first time
I did the same sorta thing with thief but it only took about 10hours stright on expert.

I didn't feel like going to school so I went to a PC room (where you pay by the hour to use the computers, fast connections, eg DSL, T1) with my friends. Played Half-life's mod Counter-Strike for 6 hours, after I was done, man was I hungry. Lucky for me it was Wensday, my cheapo self went to McDonald's and ate 29cent hambergers. Just over spring break I went to play some over but never got to breaking the 6 hours, just got to reach 5.

Sim City
PC:
SimCity2000
NHL 2000
Age of Rifles (Wargame Const. Set III)
Tie Fighter
Imperialism (evil time consuming game)
Air Warrior - was a game on AOL, you fly against at least 40 people... bombers, fighters, etc.. awesome game despite the not-so-refined graphics and AOL disconnection troubles. It became too popular, and the began charging for it.
Boardgame:
Axis and Allies by far the game I have played for the longest stretch, in college. There's something about all the plastic figures, chips, and money that the computer version can't quite capture (although it's fun, especially online!).
Several times we would start after dinner on Friday, play til 2 am, sleep for a while, start again satruday at 10 or 11 am , break for lunch and dinner, play til 2am, sleep, and sunday finish up around dinnertime (if someone hadn't wiped everybody out by then.). Of course, we also sometimes modified the rules that only world conquest would do, so you you and your ally/partner defeated the enemy, you then battle for supremacy of the world.
Yes, those were ideed the days! hahahaha
Was a pain doing homework afterword though.. pulling all nighters after gaming all night.. ouch.

I've played that game at least 30 hours straight before a few times. Too addicting. I kept saying i'll quit just as soon as I accomplish this, no this, no this . . . I was always in the middle of something so I couldn't quit. Maybe if the game had not made it impossible to beat the Emporer level I could have quit. Just when I had achieved control of the planet the computer always seemed to pull off some miraculous victories. Like one tank capuring one of my walled cities with 10 tanks fortified inside . . .

I think that it should be a rule that if you watch the sun come up or go down twice in one sitting.. then you should give sleep a try, plus at that point all you will think about while your sleeping will be the game that you just played for a day straight!
For me it would have to be Everquest, it takes at least an hour to go up one lvl and forget about camping for a specific item... some creatures only spawn once or twice a day! Other than that SimCity2000/3000, The Sims, Diablo and now Diablo2 ( finally ), Warcraft & Starcraft...
Hours and hours of my life... I need to find a way to get paid for this, hehe http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
