Heck yea! That would be a great system. How much all that gonna cost? What are you gonna connect with? Modem? Cable? DSL?

I like the amount of RAM and the DDR vid card. I'm planning on getting a similar system myself with 733mhz, 128 of Rambus DRAM and a 64mb DDR vid card.

Looks good to me http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

About the only things I would change :

Have had bad luck with WD drives.
Make sure HD is at least 7200rpm.
Might want to go with PC133 ram for overclocking (but don't know much about overclocking Athlons)

Otherwise, sweet system!

holy ****, with that setup, your king... look, u got a good mobo, you got a fast CPU, you got a GEFORCE!! well, i suggest you to get a SBLive, but other than that, your king, higher king if you got the SBLIVE http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

oh yeah, i suggest SBLive, and get yourselves some 140 dollars speakers from Cambridge Soundworks, or the top of the line from Altec Lansing. Buy the ones that have 4 speakers, and then use that to play in 3Dgames. It's tight, you can actually hear them in the back of you. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Don't bother with the Cambridge Soundworks. Go for the Klipsch Pro-Media. These speakers are simply amazing. And yes, I have heard them myself, not just from every review that talks about how good they are. http://www.klipsch.com/
They sell for $250, but with how much you are spending on the rest of your system, it is worth it.

Wow!

Wish I could get that sytem http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif. I'm shooting a little lower with an Athlon 700, 128MB PC133, GeForce SDR, SQ2500, and 15GB WS 5400 HD. But mine only weighs in at $800, so I think it's a fair trade.

Only thing I would change to your system- Since you're spending all that money- I would recommend throwing a DVD Drive in instead of the 48x CD-ROM. With all that money invested, it seems like a logical choice, for this computer (should?) last you a few years and DVD by then will most likely be more than just for movies.

voogru, sorry but I had to remove the IMG. It was hot-linked directly to the original site thereby stealing their bandwidth. If you have a website, feel free to upload the .gif to it, then you may post the IMG. Thanks. -socalgal

Where are you getting all your stuff? I am also biulding a system like that. Check it out at general tech discussion. Its title is Buy or Biuld. Where are you getting your case and power supply? ****, this if for Half-Life? Wooo, boy, youl'l kill with that and DSL in CStrike!!!

That's one heck of a good gaming system. It should run games to a fairly high speed. Are you getting the "Normal" Athlon or the T-bird? I'll suggest the T-bird since it has that special full-speed cache which has an large impact on gaming performance. Plus, the motherboard will last longer too http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif cause the motherboard will use Socket A and AMD are planning to use the next generation CPUs as SocketA.

You Hit the nail right on the head!

This is mainly for Half-Life and Counter-Strike and many other games that may replace half-life (not for a loooooonnnng time!!!)

Gee Im glad i chosen that mobo!

Get the MSI K7 Pro instead of the KA7 100 because the KX133 chipset doesn't support the Thunderbirds. Get a Thunderbird 800 instead of the Athlon 800.

voogru

I heard the Ka7-100 supports the T-bird

so whats the deal here?

pretty sweet system, get an optical mouse, mousepads suck and optical doesn't need it. Also any pioneer DVD should be good
And yes, SB Live is MUCH better then MX300 IMHO. Also think twice about a cordless keyboard, as replacing batteries just plain sucks. WD Hd's are kinda slow, go with maxtor, or for ultimate performance get IBM. Anyway here's my box:
cel2 566@850
Abit BF6
SBLive!
CLA 2 GTS 32 meg DDR
3Com modem
LinkSys NIC
HPT dma66 controller
15 gig maxtor 7200(fast!)
10 gig IBM(no complaints yet)
6 gig maxtor 5400(extra storage, but slow)
Philips 4x4x16 burner (firmware flashed to yamaha!)
Toshiba 32x cdrom(good ol' reliable 32x)
white floppy(it's faster then the black ones! hehe jk)
zip
128 generic PC133 memory

It kicks @$$ today, but I know next week it will suck, oh well, that always seems to happen. Good luck with you sys! I'm curious how much higher your benchmarks are then mine, let me know!

I'd go for the A7V and the T-bird 800. The A7V mobo will take a 1.4 gigahertz chip so you'll have upgrade ability for a while.

Also, I wouldn't buy a GTS right now. The performance gain over the GeForce DDR isn't worth the extra 100-150 bucks, in my opinion. Personally, I'd go GeForce DDR and save that extra 150. It's still a **** fast card--and, honestly, will you notice the difference between 115 and 130 frames per second?

But, hey, the GeForce 2 is still a great card--so no big deal.
