my excuse is because the first thing I do is go to my system in the morning to check mail. I don't watch the useless t.v., I use the net. for all my needs ect. and I figure some people have jobs to. they don't have everything given to them by there parents ect.

and while they are at there systems. they might have a chance to find some info. and my post are about something. not just garbage or what ever. they are about warning or some word of caution. if you will do a little more searching on other boards ect.

they have a topic just for news and info. and quit always trying to mess with me ect.

and I would like to make a special note to you. if you don't like my posting or what ever for some reason. why don't you and your family come to fl. on summer vacation. and you can personily break me from my awful habits. this would be a vacation you and your family would remember for. ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in no way trying to state anything here. I'm just stateing future news. that will and should happen ect.

The "posting other threads for refrence" is classic gene-ism along with unsurpassed sarcasim, superior egotism, and threats to "leave the board" in order to gain pathos. It's been a running gag around work here for a while. Thanks for the laughs, sorry to see you go.

I have nothing really against Gene C personally, but after reading the threads he posted I have sort of the same feeling Gradius does. Some may appreciate the news stories posted here, but then again, if we can log on to the net, then we can also find those news stories for ourselves. Which is why I just skip over the news threads. If you dont want to watch tv, thats fine too! Some of us will choose to because we enjoy it and feel like there is still some redeeming value to some of the programming.

And a general blanket statement to all: I never saw the point in people announcing they are going to leave. Just leave! If your truly missed, people will come looking for you. I feel like we are on Melrose Place with all the drama.

Anyway, have a fun time. In the meantime, we can all go to www.nytimes.com (http://www.nytimes.com) or www.usatoday.com (http://www.usatoday.com) or www.cnn.com (http://www.cnn.com) for our news stories.

I come back from my job this evening at an Inn and you guys are all fussing about Gene. I don't reply to the news posts either but I do like to read them. It's not like they are annoying or disruptfull, so what's the problem? And name calling is not necessary on either side of the issue.

Ok, this has gone on long enough.

Over the past few months, we've done our BEST to try to interfere as little as possible. This is your forum and you guys all make it as good as it is (and yes, it is good, really good... no forum compares).

But I'm not sure if that's the correct decision of late -- it seems too many things are being made public that don't need to be.

Let me set some things straight. This forum is NOT a place to trash members. We've consistently fought it when people thought they could go around messing with members, even if they were found later to be "friends."

So Gene C., that should have been an email to Gradius, not a post on this forum. If you are the man you purport to be, then deal with it like one. And Gradius, you may be sick of Gene C., but grow up and realize you won't like everyone or everything someone does, but that doesn't mean you can't learn from those people. Sometimes the people you like the least (at least at the time) are the ones that you end up learning the most from. (Some old teachers come to mind)

So the short of this is that this had better be the last of the trashing we see going on here for quite a while, even in play. We don't want to have to moderate this forum heavily (I LOVE freedom and I try to share it whenever and wherever possible). But I suppose if we have no choice, we have no choice. My plea to everyone from the people that just started checking out this forum to the people that have been with us for years... Hold yourself in check. A little kindness and tact can go a long ways.

I'll let this thread live for another few hours and then barring unforseen circumstances, I'm shutting it down.

I agree with Joel. As for the nature of Gene C.'s posts, I see nothing wrong with sharing interesting news tidbits, etc. He has been a member of this forum for a long time and has a lot of leeway in posting OT threads.

I really couldn't believe some of what I read in this thread - majorly disrepectful stuff from a variety of people whom I previously wouldn't have thought were capable of that.

In order to keep the peace and maintain the quality of this board, we'll moderate with a heavy hand if need be. Threads will simply disappear as needed with no explanation. Users will be locked out in a similar manner. Please do not abuse this board or each other.

BTW, Gradius: I don't remember appointing you as a moderator here. I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from advising other members what is or is not appropriate content for message posts. Your insults to Gene were quite childish - hope they made you feel better in some way.

I'm 18! You guys have socks older than me, and yet, one lousy post caused the undoing of many senior members. It sure does prove the point that the member status shows nothing about character here. Being 18 has nothing to do with it -- after all, I'm only 21. Criticism is definitely the hardest message to carry, and if you're going to criticize, you have to do it very carefully to avoid appearing like you're attacking or making it personal.

FYI, it wasn't just "one little post" as you may want to pass it off as. You and Gene had your little spat spanning several posts a few months ago where I had hoped it was over.

If you happened to look at my post, both of you were reprimanded equally. And there are probably quite a few of you might agree with some of the things you have said, but not in the way you said those things.

After all, as I said above, Gene C. should have emailed you instead of posting this thread. It could also be mentioned that this isn't the first of his 'member complaints' (for lack of a better term--this fits the reality of it as close as my brain can go). We ignored (in effect) the first few, but we've grown weary of all of this public bickering since it hasn't been resolved, but instead stuck out like a sore thumb.

Gradius, don't go walking away from here like an angry, hurt dog with its tail between its legs. If you're going to disagree with what someone does or says, you'd better pull out the smoothest English you have because that's the only way that any criticism can ever be honestly considered. Otherwise, it's tossed to the side like it has been here, and the personal attack is what is considered.

And Gene C., (and everyone else for that matter), if you don't like what someone says about you, then take it up to them head-to-head via email. Posting here just means you're trying to rally for support and that post will probably be promptly deleted and you'll get an email from one of us about it. BTW, if anyone tries to handle it one-on-one and it doesn't go anywhere, then email me rather than posting it here. This is a LAST option and should be recognized and considered as such.

You know... there are EIGHT THOUSAND members here. The odds of anyone agreeing with everyone is incredibly low. We all come from different backgrounds, express ourselves differently, and like different things (though I think we all love the fastest computers we can possibly get our hands on http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif ). We're going to disagree with someone sometime. It's how we handle those disagreements that show our character.

After all, when I look back to how the discussions about Creation vs. Evolution, Animal Rights, and K6-2 vs. Celeron (ok, maybe not that one http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif) were carried out, I come back with a feeling for a respect for all that were able to share their thoughts with dignity and respected other people's thoughts and how they came to their conclusions. What happened here? Use that same respect for all members... we don't want to hear any more sob stories about how 'Johnny doesn't like me and now he's not playing fair.'

So everyone just GROW UP. We don't want to have to moderate this forum significantly heavier. Enjoy and respect the freedom you have, and you'll continue to have it. A little tact goes a long way.
