deus ex demo lockup

well, i d/l'd the demo (thank god for cable) and played the first time for like 2 hours, no problems at 800x600 16bit, high quality for everything on my cel 533@600 and geforece sdr. then i quit the demo and actually did a little bit of work. came back to the demo and decided to try the 32 bit textures. set it up and once i got back into the game, it would lock up as soon as i tried to access the menu. i could look at the spinning logo for as long as i wanted, but the moment the menu came up, it would lock. this happened even after i used safe mode to turn off the sound, go back to 16bit textures, low detail all that jazz. then all of a sudden it worked. back on the initial settings. played for another 1.5 hours, then as i was going to save my game at the menu, it locked up again.

It may possibly be heat-related. Cool the jets on the overclocking and see if that solves the problem. Some games are pretty touchy about overclocked CPUs.
Another source of heat is your video card. You might want to take the case off and check the fans are working properly.

It seems that as you can actually get the game up and running for a decent amount of time, it may not be at fault.

Otherwise, try to pinpoint specific events that may cause the crash - e.g. loading a new level, playing of a certain sound etc.

it's always menu related. if i don't load up a menu, there's no problem. the lockups only come if i try to use the menu during the game to save or in the beginning to use the menus to load games or change settings. other than that, this game looks good.

I was having a lot of lock ups but between turning off my antivirus program and installing latest drivers for my sound card they went away. There seems to be quite a lot of people having lockup probs from reading their BB.

hehe ok it sounds like a problem with switching between screen modes. I experienced something very similar a while back with Hidden & Dangerous and my Voodoo 3 3000.
A combination of patches and latest drivers fixed it (doesn't it always? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif )
