my K6-500 only has PCI slots, //sigh
while lots of people say 3dFX cards are
16-bit cards, no good for Delta Force 2.

so, what i can get for DF2?
thanks.

Well, Voodoo3 is a good PCI card for the money, and it's the color depth that's 16-bit, not the card itself. Delta Force 2 should support it, since it wouldn't make much sense to only support 32-bit color. But if you want some nutty good performance, you could either get a Voodoo5 5500 or wait for the Geforce 2 to come out in PCI form. Both of these cards support 32-bit color depth, and are top of the line right now. But if you want 32-bit color depth right now and aren't ready to shell out $250, you could either get a Guillemot Cougar TNT2 PCI card, or a Creative Labs 3d blaster Savage4 PCI card.

I have ran Delta Force 2 on a Voodoo 3 2000, it works great, I have no complaints about it. I would also say that would be the route to go.

I have heard that DF2 runs like a dog on Voodoos, but Warped's experience suggest otherwise. For me (Celeron400@500, Voodoo 3 3000 AGP) the DF2 demo played like a slideshow.

Having said that, you won't regret getting a PCI Voodoo 3 for any other game that comes to mind...

LOL, no, A voodoo3 and Delta Force2 is a definite NO-NO! I have my cpu at 541 with 128mb RAM and a 32mb Asus Geforce, and Delta Force2 ran like a ***** on my "petty system"
Delta Force 2 requires something like an overclocked 1ghz Athlon and a 64mb Geforce2 to run decently http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

But seriously, running Delta Force2 on a 16bit card is useless, cause it runs ****, and u get no hardware acceleration. If u want hardware acceleration for the game, u need a 32bit card for sure. A 32mb TNT2 would be alright I guess.

You should get Nvidia 64mb DDR video card. That should do it nicely http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

j/k http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif(actually that's what I'm going to get). You say you only have PCI? Is your current video card built into the mobo? I have that same issue with my computer. I bought a Voodoo PCI but it didn't work because I couldn't remove the "AGP" graphics card because it was built into the motherboard. That's why I'm getting a new computer. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Is DF2 that Voxel game?
..I personally HATE voxels...
Its like...we dont really wanna be 3d so that cards can accelerate us, but s just pretend were real FAT pixels so we can simulate 3d.
Lol..okay maybe not FAT...
But When I ran TS (another Voxel game) on my Celly 550 w/TNT, it still choked up sometimes more than Id like it to. I still think it was the CPU's fault..

I think we need a Voxel Accelerator...give em sumthin to work on besides T&L^3 and T-Buffer.

I do not know what it is about this game. I always get crashes with it, and not real good performance either. I have a celermine 566@800 with a TNT2 and 128 MB ram and it is still a good day when i can get past one mission without a lock up. Must have something to do with the Voxels?!? I dunno, but wish that someone did!

thank you guys, i did a little research
and finally turned to RIVA TNT2 32M RAM.
well, i would definitely go for the
vOdOOO 5500 PCI when price drops if i still
keep this PCI-slot-mb junk. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

thanks.

First of all to get DF2 to run smooth at 800 x 600 you need a 2 Ghz processor, 4 gig ram and a Gforce 6, Ive run it on K6-2 @504 and Cel 566@850 and a friend has an Athlon 700 with Gforce and 800 x 600 is still not smooth!

HAHAHAHA! Yer **** right Cyclone2! I thought I had a good computer, and the performance was pathetic. But I think yer still a little far off in respect to what computer u need. It's more like 2 x 2ghz processors, 10gb RAM, and then u'd need a Geforce2 specially made with at least 2gb of RAM, and then, you'd prolly get average performance from the game http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Bobpig your machine wont run DF2 worth a bean with any PCI video card but I would recommend getting a Voodoo 3 if you have a **** card now as it will extend the playing life of your machine, my 450@504 with V3 2000 runs all recent games decently (I've got 20+) but as far as DF2 goes you will run it in 640x480 turbo off and in software mode and its just playable, chugs bad in buildings. The gameplay is great BUT I would love to see someone try it on a 233 as min. spec. machine!
