Please help, about to put my foot through computer. I purchased voodoo3 3000 about 3 months ago, playing swat3 and rainbow six rogue spear, all was fine until two weeks ago both games started to freeze at all different times and Iam forced to reboot my computer. I was told to download patches, etc but Iam new to gaming. Can someone give me a link to exactly what to download, not just a web site. My comp is a 300 pentII. Thanks in advance.

It may be that the graphics card is getting to hot and needs a fan on the heatsink. To test this theory take the case of and point a house fan into the case and see if it cures the lockups http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

Video card heat is one option, especially if you play these games for protracted periods. However, with a V3 3000 myself, I have never had these problems. Ventilation in the box and room temperature are major factors in this.

The latest RS patch is here:

Be sure to pick the one for your region.

There will also be new Voodoo drivers released soon (there are already leaked Beta versions, but I advise against these for the moment). Be sure to get these when they are released officially: www.3dfxgamers.com (http://www.3dfxgamers.com)

You could also try the following Rogue Spear sites' forums for troubleshooting info regarding and hardware you may have, as well as getting some pretty cool new weapons http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif : http://www.wargamer.com/pie4foo/ http://roguespear.3dretreat.com/ http://www.roguespeardatabase.com/

Another possibility is that your file system needs some attention.
Check that you have at least 200-300MB free on the drive/partition that holds the swapfile (assume C: if you haven't changed this yourself)

Also run scandisk in "Thorough" mode and then Disk Defragmenter, being sure to check the "arrange programs so they run faster" radio button. Both these utilities can be found on Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools
Even better, if you have Norton Utilities, use the defragmenter on there. Most agree it is better and faster.
Be sure to quit all other programs first, and if you haven't done this for a while (or ever!) pencil in something else for the afternoon - it will take a while.

Please post back and let us know how you get on.
