I am downloading ICQ2000a right now so it would take me a few months on this modem. For my sake (and everyone else's!) just what type of sound card are you looking at?
Personally I suggest a Sound Blaster Live! Value, only $50 or so. Great card too! Go check out SysOpts user reiviews.

BTW: In the morning I will type up instructions on how to make animated windows boot screens and I will send them to you. Do you want my boot-up screen too? It is a pretty good example.
Here's a better deal in my opinion, SB Live Value for $39.95 http://www.compgeeks.com/cgi-bin/details.asp?cat=MultiMedia&sku=205-4670C
It doesn't include the driver, you can get the driver here.

Thanks for the link, LJE2...
Frozen: Yes I would also Like your boot-up screen too.
Thanks
BTW, the two soundcards I have listed are:
-Sound Blaster Live Value Digital for $49 + $15 s/h = $65
-Sound Blaster PCI 512 for $58.41, free shipping
The PCI looks better for the price, but I'm going to go to LJE2's link, and check out that card. Usually I try not to buy from someone I don't trust.

I checked out the link, LJE2 posted
I'd rather not obligate myself to register with www.compgeeks.com (http://www.compgeeks.com) just to see the total price of a sound card, that SB Live Value sounds great at $40, but i need to know the shipping price.
If anyone else has any recommendations for a Sound Card, let me know, keep it under $60 please. BTW, I had a PCI 128 and considered that to be good-quality sound, I play MP3's, some games, mostly Q1 or Q2, and Half-Life, and I use Win98SE so if that helps narrow the choices a bit...great.

Yup, I would suggest the Sound Blaster Live Value too! It's a great card and if you have surround speakers, they work AWESOME! Not bad if you don't either. Can't go wrong with that card. I bought mine off Ebay http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
I have bought many things from Compgeeks in the last 2 years they are a reputable company with good prices, good service, and they don't gouge you on shipping.
I don't know where in Texas you live but I used the Dallas TX, zip code of 75201 to compute the shipping on this card, it was $5 for Ground, and $8 for 2 day air.

the sound blaster live value is a great card. i have had one for the past year and love it. i had a friend using the pci512 and he upgraded to a Live! because the live offered a lot better environmental audio and better software. using the live with cambridge soundworks 4 channel surround speakers with a sub woofer makes me feel as if i am in the game when playing Half-life counter strike. its an awesome card and i doubt i will want to upgrade for a looooong time.
