I've just bought a second hand 9.1gb Quantum Fireball Plus KA. The drive is detected fine by the BIOS but when I try to partition it with Fdisk it comes up with "no free space to partion drive". However no partitions are defined!!

How can I fix this drive??

I was going to try a low level format but first I need to find a board that supports it and this is a last resort.

Note the board I tried it on was an atrend BX.

If you have a version of Linux, you can boot it up and use Linux's fdisk. I've found it works better than DOS's sometimes.

go to quantums web site and all your answers are there...it is quite a nice site for support

All the Quantum Utilities I tried said they could not find drive. Except one which said drive is not SMART capaable which it is.

At boot up at the HDD SMART capable it says none.

Is this HDD dead because Ontrack also said it could not find drive.

Does anyone have any ideas? Since the drive is covered by a 3 year warranty from Quantunm will they be able to offer a replacement seeing as I dont have a receipt?

If not I might try a Low level format seeing as this voids the warranty and I might also destroy servo information.

Fdisk now does not run and instead exits and says "Error reading fixed disk"

Fdisk /mbr also has no effect saying Master boot record was not modified.

Can anyone tell me the location of any Low level format utilities - there are none on Quantums site only zero fill programs which couldnt read the drive.
