Where would I go to get my A+? I'm clueless on this matter.

Thanks!

What?

Nobody has their A+? You gotta be kidding me!

'Cuz if some of you did, you'd be telling me where to get it (location).... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Hmmmmm...I can think of several of us that have it! BUT some of us have to work at the current time even though I would love to stay here at sysopt and refresh my screen every 10 seconds just so I can see if there is any new posts that way I could always have the first answer for you http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

BTW it is very easy to find if you had just gone to any search engine and typed in A+ http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
http://www.comptia.org/index.asp?ContentPage=certification/certification.htm

btw that is the page that will explain a bit about the tests if you want the "home page" it's www.comptia.com (http://www.comptia.com)

Thank you for the link, Mntsnow. I assumed from what I had seen other members post, that the A+ was easy. That is why I thought I'd get a quick answer.

The site told me about why I should get the certification but not WHERE to get it. Yes, I did type "A+ Certification" in Yahoo and it gave me a bunch of sites that told me how to prepare for it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.

Where did you take it? Obviously it varies from place to place, I just want to know http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. And want to find out how to take it in my area.

VUE offers certified testing centers, and does currently give CompTIA's A+ exam.

Hope this helps,

Yes!!

Thank you very much, Rob. I was able to locate a test center in my state. It will be awhile before I take it, but I wanted to know in advance.

Thanks to you both! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My advice is to wait for the new exam, unless you are a very quick study, and purchase study material aimed at the new test due out in December.

If you just study a couple of books and use the CDROMs that come with the books, and just build/rebuild a couple of computers you should have no problem passing the exaim.

Testing is somewhat expensive, but the purchase of some onli9ne study materials can earn you a substantial voucher towards the test ($50) which should offset the cost of study material. You can expect the tests to cost around $130 each, but discounts are available in many cases. Talk to your parents - I think most parents would be thrilled to have their kid "certified" as a computer repair technition, and would gladly fork over the $$$.

Just as CMonster said, some basic knowledge goes a long way with A+. I think the passing score on one test is 65 and the other is 60. Hang out at Sysopt for a while and you can't fail with a minimum score like that!

As far as WHERE to take it...the testing site doesn't really matter. Call Sylvan Prometric (I forget the number for A+...only used the MS # all the time) and they can recommend sites in your area. Some in my area actually offer discounts if you walk in rather than pay through Prometric. Just a thought. If you already have a pretty thorough knowledge of computers and the hardware/software details, there's no need to fork out $$$ to take a course. I did what CMonster said to do. I went to Barnes and Noble during a week I had off, read a few A+ books and took their practice tests (hell no I didn't buy them...that's the beauty of Barnes and noble), took the tests, and moved on.

Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement! I don't already have a very thorough knowledge of the inards of computers yet. Was thinking of building a computer just for the experience at some point. I probably will wait for the December test but might buy an A+ book anyway just to gain general knowledge. The new test doesn't have DOS, right? I don't know DOS whatsoever. There's no neeed to hurry anyhow.

You guys have been very helpful. CMonster, you're the one who got me thinking about this in the first place. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
