Does anyone know if it is possible to fool a program into believing that a serial cable link (null modem) is in fact a modem connection?

I am trying to run a game (Apprentice 32) in windows 98 which only allows linked play via. a modem - you have to enter IP address and port number. I'd like to be able to play this multiplayer over my existing serial link.

Any ideas?

I think there is a way to get a Null modem connection (or direct modem connection, just about any network connection) to work as part of the Windows network neihborhood. Then all you need to do is bind a TCP/IP protocol (IPX as well) to it.
