Hi AlanS,
I would recommend strategy games like Total Annihilation or Command & Conquer Red Alert (or the original). These games should run fine on your PC and are quite easy and cheap to get hold of. I suppose you could call them 'battle stuff' but they'll keep you going for weeks!!!

How bout good ol' Civilization 2? The original Civ chewed away at my hours, and the second one just blew me away...dont bother with 'Civ: call to power', that one bites. If you want something set in space, and harder, but similar to Civ, try Alpha Centari..I never liked it, because its complexity overwhelmed me. Also, I dont know if it will run on that system. Civ 2 most definitly will tho. Check your local bargain bins for it.

Master of Orion 2 should work well, as should the Battleground Series (Napoleonic and Civil War stuff)
Dune 2000 is cool too...

The hours will just fly by....

Alpha Centauri is a kick **** game, it can easily suck up a whole lot of time. But, be warned, the reason it can do that is becuause it's slow and deep. This can mean it's hard to get into depending on your personality. The help system (if tuned on) makes it fairly easy to learn. I'm not sure how well it would run on your system.

If that's not your style, ha, there's always solitare. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

How about raiding the bargin bins at local department and toy stores? There are many half-decent games available for very little money that would surely help pass the time. You could probably find things like Warcraft 1 and possibly 2 in there, and things like Quake. Even Doom could burn up more than a few hours.

How about Starcraft and it's expansion set, BroodWar. Diablo would surely pass the time too.
