Privateer 2: I know it's old, but I need help.

I recently replaced the 4meg PCI video card in my system because of DirectX problems with it (certain games wouldn't run at all, DVD wouldn't display properly). I'm now using an AGP 4meg S3 Trio3D card. Everything has been great except Privateer 2 now runs at 2x speed now and is unplayable. I disabled the 2x speed on my AGP in my bios (FIC 503+ mobo with Award bios), but that made no difference. Any suggestions?
