Trouble loading game

Thanks for all your input on games for my laptop...picked up a few from the bargain bin..but a question about Sims (my son asked me to install it in the laptop). Get a message that says "Direct X7 or Service Pack3 for NT4 required"....then mentions hard drive space. I don't know what this means...And I am a novice to the lingo. Tried to load it in my home unit..PentII, virtually empty hardrive...same message...any ideas what this means ( be gentle, use simple words) thanks Alan

depending on what os you are running this thing meens 2 different things.
1 if your using windows 95/98 you need to upgrade dirextX to version 7.
2 if your using NT yo need to install the service pack3.

If its a windows 9x system your having its easy. directX7 most probably is on the game cd, just search for it. if its not on the cd start windows update and download from there.

If its an NT machine download service patch3.
