Quake 3 Windows 2000 problem

I just installed Win2000, and I installed Quake3, and it works fine, but there is a horrible beeping noise all the time. Any suggestions? And yes, I do have latest drivers for soundcard for Win2k.

Beeping from the internal speaker inside the comp? or the normal speakers?

i am running windows 2000 pro final and i play quake 3 all the time and the only problem i have is the locking up of the game for like less than one second at a time but thats because of my cable modem. its a generic brand. everythign works perfectly for me and i even seen a big performance increase from playing it on 98SE!!!!
