Hello all. I'm going to build another gaming system for another cousin this weekend, and I was wondering what fellow gamers thought of it. Suggestions would be appreciated, but money is definitely an issue. Here goes:

Asus P5A Ali mobo w/AMD K6-2 500
ATX Whale med-tower
128MB PC-100 RAM
IBM 20GB UIDE HDD (7200rpm)
STB Voodoo3 2000 16MB AGP
Creative 52x IDE CDROM
Soundblaster Live! Value PCI
Iomega internal zip250
Altec ACS-33 w/subwoofer
Logitec wheelmouse
Win95 keyboard
no modem/NIC card (his parents said "forget it")

*Gonna put this puppy together with him this Saturday, and give the guy a free 17" Dell Ultrascan. No extra fees, nothin'. ****, I'm such a nice cousin.

Well, sounds nice. I'm guessin he either didn't have a comp before, or had a piece of **** (his parents sound like the anti comp type), so a pentium classic would seem nice to him!
But I'd have to say, 128 megs, good.
17" monitor free, great!

How much does a rig like that cost these days?

It shouldn't be too expensive to add a modem.

Thanks for the replies! Mmmm...it cost me almost $1000 for the parts. Do you think Q3 would perform okay with the K6-2 500 chip? I'm not looking for 50+ FPS @1024x768 or anything like that. Usually, I run most of my games at 800x600 on my P3 500 w/320MB RAM & a CL Voodoo2.

That rig should be plenty enough to handle Q3A. The main things you have to be concerned with are CPU speed, RAM size, and video card. I personally would choose a different video card since I like 32-bit color, but with a Voodoo3 you'll get the frame rates you need.
