This Microsoft monopoly is pissing me off. Last nite I bought a Sidewinder Game Pad from Microsoft and the ****er won't work in NFS3. I treid everything reinstalling Win95 and it still wouldn't work. I don't know what to do.... Could someone help me please???
I am tempted to take that thing back tomorrow and get a no name Controller.
Are you sure it's the controller and not the port? My gameport won't work at all unless I load older drivers.
What knid of sound card do you have?
A lot of the Aurea chip designs do not work with Joysticks at all, unless you get real lucky.
I had a Diamond Sonic Impact that wouldn't recognize the stick unless I added and removed the stick repeatedly multiple times from the control panels game controllers applet, then I could use it until the next time I rebooted.
The MS SideWinder is the most stable stick around.

Coolit Krueger. AS BBA says, the MS sidewinder products are of high quality and compatibility.
First, let's assume there's nothing wrong with the gameport or your installation of the software.
But just in case, check Device Manager's gameport heading for any yellow or red exclamation marks.
You should be running MS SideWinder software version 3.02. Check that by opening the Profile Activator and clicking the Help/About menu.
So far so good?
Next open MS SideWinder Central. click on SW Control Panel. The game pad should be listed. Click Properties. Start pushing the buttons on the GamePad and visually check that the actions correspond to the image in the pad on the screen.
If all this is working, your almost there.
Unload the SideWinder software from the systray up in the right hand corner of your screen by the clock. Start NFSIII and select One Player Single Race.
Select Options.
Select Controllers.
You should see joystick button configurations. Use the mouse to click the desired function and press a button on the gamepad that you want to use that function. Such as button A for the accelerate function.
After your satisfied with your choices, press Done.
Then Go race!
Note:
It better to keep the SW software from loading at Startup. Remove it from the Startup folder. More often than not (that would be almost always) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
the button assignment are done "in-game".
