On the Lam 05-22-2000, 09:56 PM I like them...it's very convenient because if a game needs a cd, it takes so long to initialize...with the crack, games start up twice as fast! Mntsnow 05-22-2000, 10:06 PM Yep. I like 'em http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Mntsnow Ultima 05-22-2000, 10:47 PM Best kinda crack I've ever seen!!! Saves ya the trouble of finding the dreaded thingie too!!! Pim FrozenLiquidity 05-22-2000, 11:07 PM If you bought the program, yes, those things are very helpful. If you got the program second-hand, you shouldn't be doing it. I bought UT and I got the no CD Crack for it, it has been very helpful at LAN parties, loading is quicker and i am the first into the game, and therefore the server!!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif FrozenLiquidity oblivion 05-23-2000, 04:02 AM Yea as soon as a get a game I go out and get the "no CD crack"............ thekingofpain 05-23-2000, 07:56 AM Alittle help here, what is "it"?? Ive cracked a few cd's after I made coasters out of em...but I dont think thats what we are speaking about... Szech 05-23-2000, 10:09 AM Say a game requires that you have the CD in the drive in order to play the game, even though it copied EVERYTHING to your hard drive. A CD crack will let you play without the CD in your drive. It's usually specific to the game, with the exception of those programs that make it think your CD is on your hard drive. And yes, I like them a LOT. I hate starting a new game, then it says, "Half-Life CD not found in Drive" Then I have to pull out my CD case, then I have to fumble through to get the CD, then I put it in, then I wait for it to initialize, then I hit OK, it still hasn't initialized, so I hit OK again, and I repeat until frustrated. I also think it's cool that if you have an audio CD in the drive, it'll play the music off of that. I was playing half-life the other day while listening to Snoop http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif. Eli 05-23-2000, 05:26 PM Would it be against forum policy to ask for help finding a specific crack, even if you own the game? Starcraft for example. I've never been able to get any of the cracks for it to work. oblivion 05-23-2000, 05:58 PM eli.......but I do not think you will get one to work for you while you play online, because battlenet actually checks to see if the games exe has been modified and will deny you of service if it is. [This message has been edited by oblivion (edited 05-23-2000).] Gutter Ball 05-23-2000, 05:59 PM Hey Eli, I dunno if it's against policy, but I gave this link: http://www.gamecopyworld.com/ to someone else and no one said anything about it. If it's a no-no, then I won't post it again http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif AuraEdge 05-23-2000, 06:02 PM The NoCD crack for Starcraft/Broodwar requires that you copy the original EXE to the harddrive. The crack then redirects the EXE checking thing to the harddrive. The EXE is almost the whole CD, so that NoCD crack is gunna cost you about half a gig. I havent actually used it, I just keep my BW cd in my CD-r drive and it stays there. oblivion 05-23-2000, 06:10 PM It may be a no no to post the link, but I frequent thier forums, and the Mods there frown on piracy questions and questions about serials ect from what I have seen. They maintain a strong stance that their site is only meant for backing up legit games you own the rights to......and I do think that is just fine to do so (i.e. no cd crack for games you own ect)..........I was going to post a similar link, but did not. socalgal 05-23-2000, 07:03 PM That gamecopyworld.com link is fine; it's been posted previously and allowed, as it is a good way to make LEGAL CD games work without those annoying prompts. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif oblivion 05-23-2000, 07:56 PM I tried several of the "no cd cracks" for starcrap...they all worked fine...that is until I tried to play online. You ever notice how little M$ protects thier software from bieng copyied...and did you notice how little they seem to care about stuff like serial #'s to play online......it could easily change I am sure.....but most other multiplayer games are cracking down.......like q3.....I do not see how they can tell that someone else has used the key on thier machine without spying on your exact system info....I mean I went to my cousins for the weekend and took my q3.......installed it and went to play online with my legit copy(that I got from daveleau BTW)......and it said something like....."key is being used by another computer ect ect"..........I mean WTF is that all about.....they had to of spyied on me to know that............what if I sold my computer and moved in with my cousin and bought another computer?????????? I do not think the ID master server would know that I had moved, bought another computer(or even say I completly overhauled the system new OS cpu mobo ect ect)and moved...........then I would not be able to play anymore ....I mean WTF is that all about!!!!!!!!!!!!! thekingofpain 05-23-2000, 08:04 PM Oh...now I get it...thanx http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Eli 05-24-2000, 04:39 PM I haven't tried Starcraft online actually... In fact I haven't played it at all in months. It was just the first example I could think of. It must've been over a year ago when I tried every no-CD crack in gamecopyworld for Starcraft with no luck. SysOpt.com
