I searched at yahoo.com
for intel suck and look what I found
"Bigger isn't better. but, intel doesn't get this. Their processors keep getting bigger and bigger, and hotter and hotter. Contrast this with other processors that get smaller and cooler with each generation.
Another x86 issue is CISC vs RISC. Specifically, the fact that pentiums use variable instruction lengths. A major aspect of RISC architectures is fixed instruction length. It speeds instruction decoding and greatly simplifies design. If intel was smart, they would have made the switch to RISC at the same time apple introduced powerpc-based macs"
So I was right about one thing huh
these overpowered processor is inefficient
they require too much cooling and explained
why a console is much more capable even thought it run at a much slower clock rate.
These cpu is like 386 or 486 on steroids.

They don't really get hotter and hotter. If you build a risc that is as fast as a Pentium III 866, then it would run pretty **** hot tool. I think the alpha is a risc processor and it needs a nice little cooling setup to stay cool.
As for the bigger and bigger--that is why they are striving for a the smaller transisitor size. Used to be .025 now its down to .018 with Transmeta's chip saying they attained .015. (or is that .25/.18/.15). That size is actually the space between the transisors i Think. The smaller they get this, the less power they consume, the less heat they produce. However, because of that, it also makes it so they can speed the chip up, which in turn will produce more heat.

You wouldn't happen to know when the article was dated would you? Because if it came out when Intel introduced Slot 1, then people might have gotten that impression. I remember when I first saw a slot1 CPU, thinking OMG! What a stupid idea! But then Intel needed the space. Well, they don't anymore, which is why the new coppermines come in either slot 1 or socket 370 form. Intel is actually phasing out slot 1.
If the article was dated recently, then I'd assume that they're referring to Xeons. Have you seen those things? THEY'RE HUGE! Have to fit all that cache on there you know.
As for running hotter, that's true. But that's the same with AMD as well. I remember my old 386 DX 33 didn't have a heatsink or fan on it, and when I took it out to put in a Cyrix 386 to 486 DX2 66, I had to put a heatsink on it, and I thought it was pretty useless. But it was required to dissipate the heat created from the extra clocks. Now all processors require heatsinks and fans. And it's not just Intel. Look at an Athlon. It's about the size of a slot 1. And it runs hot too.
As for CISC vs. RISC, it can be argued that either one is better than the other. Oh yeah, and just to clarify, CISC (Complicated Instruction Set Computer) has all the instructions that the computer executes, wheras RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) has basic instructions, and the computer will use one or more of these instructions to do the same thing. I personally think RISC is better, since I think some CISC instructions can be obsolete, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, I don't think Intel could have switched over because their programs wouldn't be backwards compatible. Sure they half-assed their way through widening the data path, but I suppose they valued backward compatibility a lot.
Anyway, I think the stupidest thing Intel did was the whole thing with the data path. When they widened it, they maintained the previous path, but then kind of added a side channel. Everything else in the article, bigger CPUs, hotter CPUs, I don't think is a big deal.

First I click on "Intel or AMD? Who will rule the world?". Would have posted but it was locked. Origin - Win98.
Immediately afterwards I click on this thread. Origin - Win98.
Wow!! Same thing!
Here he goes again trying to up his post count. And look at the profile! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm seeing waaaaaaaay too many nutcases at Sysopt recently.
Two freakin' sentences from jad and you're crying about it. I didn't even think they were insulting. Another ceedee, I suppose.

Warthog-
Finally!! Someone else agrees with me!! In the last week, there have been SO MANY worhtless threads!! I am going to stop replying to them just because its so annoying!! An occasional off-topic thread was a nice break...when it ment something! But (And win_98, sorry to pick on you...) in the last week or two, you will see messages from the same people over and over. Win_98, WTP/WTF, etc, etc. Annoys teh hell out of me and wastes peoples time.

Good http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.
I started to notice it a few days ago but thought it was only me. Then I clicked on the "Intel or Amd" thread and realized other people felt the same way.
Same as you Soopa - I'm sick of the bs OT posts. Like you said, once in a while is ok but not ALL THE TIME.

yeah, he has multiple replies, and most of them dont' help, he has lots of NEW TOPICS, and every day, MORE and MORE, just trying to make his post count higher if u know what i mean. I don't know how ceedee types, but to me, this guy does not know too much things on computers, or overclocking, and should research more b4 coming back to post his ideas. Thermal paste on a thermal pad?? are u nuts????

No it was not Ceedee. Ceedee is actualy a nice guy. He just got off to a bad starrt here.
well, whoever it is, i recommend he researches more often. no offense, but it's the truth.

i'll take your word on it jad, but he had a very bad start. We really dont need that level of immaturity here though.

Hey Win_98, if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all.
So far I have found all of you're posts to be very unhelpful.
Go away or stop making pointless topics.
