I have a few time drink budweiser but that was all i didnt feel too good
so i never touch it afterward.
do you think drinking help relieve stress
make you relaxes and take out all those
frustration from ya like I am so energetic
24hrs a day
if it bad for you why do some people drink regularly i mean taste bad right
they pretty much like the smell of it
but then again a heavy drinker is someone who drink uncontrollablely
we been taught not to drink at all or start
if at all possible in school. well educated people will never ever drink hehe.
what I cant stand is the smell of beer
it just make me puke, yes I am infact allergic to it.

I'm Canadian so...... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Seriously though, a glass of wine or any other drink per day can be healthy. Stress relief is very important in today's fast paced world. There are many other ways to relieve stress mind you, too each there own.

I think anything you do can be good for you as long as you do it in a mannerly fashion.

I myself is a health freak. and I don't do anything to disrupt my mind or my ability to think on my feet in a quick or sudden spot or time ect.

I usta never drink...
Last new years I went to my friends party..ended up having half a punchbowl of screwdrivers and whatever else was dumped in there after the cleanup.
I didnt really get drunk or nuthin, and didnt have a hangover, and didnt do anything stupid, and I even remembered everything in the morning but I vowed to never drink again. I'm also talkin to my friends about not drinking, cuz alot of em do, most are far from responsibly drinking.

I did this for 4 reasons...one is its illegal for me...two is I feel its a sin to drink underaged, no matter how responsible I think I am....three is I need to respect the body that God gave me....and four is one of my dad's friends was drunk one day...she fell down a flight of stairs and snapped her neck...

Well thats just my life...you all may have different stories, but thats my view.

Well, it is a proven medical fact that a drink a day (wine, beer, even a shot of booze) is good for the body, the heart in particular. But more than that and the negative effects start to outwiegh any positive ones.

I have nothing against drinking, and occasionally throw one or two back (usually in a social situation), but when left to my own devices I don't touch the stuff. It's probably been at least a month since I've even had a beer.

But if I get the urge to get drunk...watch out! Last time I did (few years ago) I went and bought all the alcohols (the BEST of each kind) needed to make Long Island Iced-Teas. I seem to remember it costing well over $100 for the ****. Then had a Long Island Iced Tea party at my house. Great drinks and a fun time was had by all.....at least that's what I was told the next day. I really have no idea.

I LOVE BEER I have done stupid things while drunk that were hazardous to my health, and I believe that over-doing it is unhealthy. However, I read a study once that showed that people who party alot usually have a fuller life, and go further in life, also. That is my excuse http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Feel free to use it when needed.

I am not of legal age to drink yet.

When I am, the only stuff I will drink is wine and champagne (did I spell that right?!) nothing else.

I won't smoke, and won't drink (any major stuff http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif) I'm to much of a nerd!

I don't really participate in any illegal drugs (VERY rarely)... smoked week a bit in HS, but I have decided that alcohol is just great stuff. Of course, I'm in a fraternity, so it's pretty much something that I'm in constant contact with. I'm sure that i fit the criteria for a binge drinker, but I'll tell you what.. now that I'm 21, and have 3 solid years of insane partying under my belt, it takes a whole lot for me to really get drunk. Now it's more fun to watch the younger guys come in and begin the learning process.
narayan... it took me 2yrs., but I really enjoy the taste of almost all beer now (not an ale fan). There is nothing I enjoy more than a tall Guiness with a big meal or just to sit outside and enjoy the afternoon with one.
frozenliquidity... anyone here who's tried it will tell you the same wine gives you the WORST f**king hangover (except for my 21st!)
OuTpAtient... I'm not sure if i read this, or if i'm just making it up, but my understanding is that as of right now, there is no actual evidence that the alcohol is good for the heart directly, but rather, by reducing the stress levels in people, it indirectly helps it... do u have any recent information on this??? i'd like to know.

The best part about drinking is that if you are careful it's not like drugs... sober then 2 mins later ur completely trashed, it's a nice gradual relaxing thing

prolly one of my favorite quotes is something like..."Beer... helping ugly people have sex for decades"... so funny how true it is
it's like liquid confidence at a party... now you've actually got the balls to go talk to that honey over inthe corner...

well, i've rambled enough... i already miss school... doh! and I still have three months of summer left

Well, I guess I'm a lucky guy...again!!!

Here in Holland you are allowed to drink alcohol from the age of 16 I think!!!

Not that it matters to me, cause even if I lived in the States, I would still be allowed to drink, since I'm already 23.

Not that I drink much or something, only when I go out, and I never get drunk anymore, cause I hate it!!!

I mean, when I'm drunk and I go to bed, and I close my eyes, it all starts spinning.
Open my eyes, it's gone, close, is here again!!!
You go try and sleep with your eyes open.

But that only happens when I lay on my back.
So you'd say, lay on your belly!! Well, that makes my noscious, so that ain't good either!!!
And when I lay on my side, I can't sleep!!!
Till, I'm so tired that I sleep through anything!!

I learned many-a-night in college before I was 21--that you can in fact drink too much. I'm in a fraternity too (Sigma Pi), ubt I don't really associate it with my drinking 'skills'. I do drink, sometimes I can put away a six or a 12 pack if I want to. (but I don't do that very often!). Bars are a good place to have a good time; sometimes I throw parties at my house. I know when I have had enough and I NEVER drive drunk.
Drinking too much can be bad for you, but hell--you have to live a little! When it interferes with your life, thats when you know you have gone too far. I manage to be a full time student and hold down two computer related jobs. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
And Beer is the Golden Beverage for any occasion! My other favorite quote is "Beer-- Its not just for breakfast anymore!" http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif I can drink any kind of beer, but I HATE Guiness Stout. Thats stuff is carbonated coffee in a can. NASTY!

While beer is not the best for you, even it can help to clean your veins and arteries. It does slowly kill your liver if you drink in excess (more than 2-3 a day) but by drinking one a day, you can die with clean arteries and have a much lower incidence of heart attack.

Bad stuff??? You've never had GOOD beer then Moose.

If you're ever in Germany, try some of their locals brews. And if you get the chance, there is a monastary near the tiny mountain town of Wildflecken, that has the ABSOLUTE BEST beir I've ever had. Playboy magizine rated their beer the 2nd best in the entire world.

hmmmm, this is probably why I'm not much a beer drinker today. Ya see, I spent my high-school years as an Army-brat (father in military) living in Germany (in the aforementioned tiny mountain town). And upon returning to the States I discovered that this **** we have here really shouldn't even be legally allowed to be called beer.

Of all the beer I've drunk, I must say that Austrailian beer is the best. i used to be in this punk band and we would drink vodka like water. it was scary, i can't even touch the stuff now, it gives me this weird gag reflex. i don't like booze all that much, and i would never drink by alone, it's more of a social thing for me, and if i had to give it up completely, i don't think i would have much trouble. i used to drink way to much pop, everyday at least, but i've gone since new years day without any, so i know i have some self control.

ohh yeah, if you think a friend drinks to much and you want him/her to cut down, make a webpage, and send the link to everyone he/she knows (eg. http://www.members.home.net/fatgnome/drunk/index.html )

i have a 1/2 gallon of gin, a pint of midori and a liter of vodka in the closet all from the past few days. it will take me ages to drink it all. used to be a case of beer at night at leastr, but now i am older and slower and have less money so i drink less.

Well I know studies have been done to prove the merits of alcohol's effects, but they keep coming back with inconsistent results. One day they say it's proven, another day, Harvard disputes it with another study. I'd say it's pretty much in the air. It does clean the heart and hurt the liver as daveleau said, but since heart disease is the #1 killer in the US, I'd be willing to err on the side drinking.

Drinking poison in small amounts also builds up an immunity to it...
Any of u gunna start sipping poison?

And while I'm at it...
Beer is made from barley, which is a grain hich by itself is fiberous, which means it acts as a cleaning agent. The difference is the the liver doesnt have to churn out the **** when its done filtering thru.

So...why pay for a 6 pack of fermented barley when you can pay 3 bucks for a large box of friggin cereal?

and beer is one of the worst alcohols to drink if your purpose is to 'cleanse'.

And for all those people who drink alot, with no concern for the brain thier killing, and the hangover that results, or lack of judgement that night....there's so many stupid things you can do while your drunk. Your going to use alchohol as an excuse the next morning, but sometimes you cant..(such as falling down a flight of stairs and snapping your neck).

I know some people are gunna think my arguements 'cheesy' but just think about it.

educated people like us know it bad for you
so why do we drink any at all
arent we been told not to have even a zip
it is addictive and you just want to have more and more until you drop dead.
I seen some people over dozed on the thing
and almost die from it.
liquor smell refreshing doesnt it
ah the smell of it make me on cloud 9
did you know that man drink more beer then woman do it because they are the man or maybe I could be wrong some woman drink even more then that. ^_^

I havent a clue but I think the ratio of man
being drunk is much higher then woman.

my grandfather lived to be 97. about 20years ago when I asked him the secret to a long healthy life he showed me a bottle of vodka in the dresser next to his bed. He told me he had been drinking one shot a day first thing in the morning since his early teens.

Hey, I am 15, and I admit, I have had some drinks, but never enuf to really get drunk. The worst I got to was that I laughed at almost EVERYTHING, and couldn't stop laughing. I never really fest it at all the next morning, so I knew I didnt drink too much. I find that it is pretty relaxing, and I think as long as you dont hae more than about 3-4, your fine, just dont drive. The limit for driving is ZERO!

Mattfathead, that site is great!!! You said that you were in a band. Was the name mattfathead? I seem to remember that name?

Most people can cite an example of a relly that lived to 100 and still tipped a bottle of gin down their neck. Similarly, their granny that smoked 80 Woodbine a day and still had her own legs and lungs attatched to her body at 120, or something.

I can cite similar examples..... Granddad did 2 bottles of Scotch/day, had a haemorrhage in the brain, coma for 9 weeks, then went on to live another 25 years (not on the booze) to 95.....

Unfortunately, there are more cases where heavy drinking results in premature death than not.

It's about drawing the line, dependency, reasons for drinking.....

Much drinking is a form of escapism. Even social drinking in moderation (like not getting completely battered) could be considered a form of escapism, but not in a serious sense. Heck, going on holiday is about 'getting away from it all' for a whils, whatever you do on holiday. "Ahhh it's nice to have a break...." Of course, there's nothing wrong with that.

The problems start when people need to have a drink. This is different to sitting in the garden on a sunny day thinking Mmmmm... I could use a nice cold beer. This is needing a drink first thing in the morning. Vodka on the cornflakes stuff....

That's when the problem has become serious. I was going to say "that's when the trouble starts", but I would have been wrong. When it gets to the 'cornflakes' stage, the trouble started some time ago.

What's really serious is when an alcoholic stops eating. Alcohol has calories, but relatively little nutritional value (vitamins, etc). You can be overweight, but malnourished. Malnutrition does not necessarily mean underweight.... mal = bad, the rest is obvious. So what happens here? (no disrespect to vegetarians / vegans, but the example is easier to use with meat http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif ) Well, your body is essentially little different to a piece of steak - meat. So I eat a piece of meat and my body breaks it down and uses it to repair, build and fuel the body. So without that protein, vitamins, etc in that nice roast with lots of veggies for vitamins, etc the body has to obtain these substances from somewhere.

The body is remarkably adaptive and the body has a reserve supply of 'steak' stashed away. The body starts to burn its own muscle tissue simply to sustain its own existence. Obviously, this cannot continue indefinately and eventually you collapse from exhaustion and malnutrition. By this stage, the problem is extremely serious and life-threatening - mainly because the person is so waek, their immune system is almost non-functional and something like pneumonia will kill them in 3 days.

I know. I buried my father 2 years ago. He was 57, I was 23.

Moderation.

MMMmmmm.... Beer..... I beleive Homer Simpson said it best. Ever since my college days I would go out to either bars or parties Thursday-Saturday to get drunk, hunt for women, etc... Now that I am a married man, my wife and I try to get to the bar at least once a week. She loves to dance and I love beer.

It's funny how tastes change over time. My dad always had a keg in the fridge in the garage while I was growing up. He'd come home from work and ask me to "draw him a beer". I'd pull the frosty mug out of the freezer and fill it up. But I digress....

I used to try it occasionally and didn't like it at all! In high school, I still couldn't stand the taste all that well, so I went the route of wine coolers and vodka drinks. Once college hit, wine coolers are for girls and beer is all you can get. Therefore it grew on me. Busch Light was the beer of choice at the time (early 90s). I also had phases in college where I preferred Southern Comfort or Jim Beam. When the parents were buying, it was Bacardi and Coke.

After graduation, I couldn't stand Busch anymore so it became Miller light and Bud light. Now those are becomming intolerable. I'm really into the microbrews now. I spent 10 months in Germany and really learned what good beer is all about. Wheats, Pilseners, etc. Lately ales and reds have started to grow on me.

My hard drink now is CC + 7. Guess I got sick of rum. Occasionally, I'll have a Gin + tonic.

Times and tastes change and alcohol is not for everybody. It has long been a part of my family and as long as you are smart about it, there is no problem.
