When I first installed my Intellimouse Explorer, I used the PS2 port because for some reason I couldn't get the USB to work. Anyways, months later (as in today) I decided to try out the USB. It works. Great.

What's the difference? It's not like I needed to free up a mouse port. If anything I'd rather use the PS2 - if I had USB devices - to save some USB port space. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

hotswapping is one. i use one on my thinkpad so i pull it out when i go to school and pop it back in at home w/o having to shut down my machine. supposed to sample faster than the old ps/2 but i hear you can OC the ps/2 port. is nothing sacred anymore? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I'm old fashion. I stick with what works. I like the serial or the ps/2 mice. but, like was already stated it is a more of a luxury to use. and if it dose and it will happen. your p/2 mouse dies on you while you are working. you have to shut down the machine ect.

and you will also not take up an irq that you might later on need ect. alot of people includeing myself use a externel modem or such or do a serial connection and that way the ports are open.

also, just to add. when you first tried the mouse. you might not have had the usb port loaded in your bios ect.

u can remove the USB while computer is turned on, you can't do that with the PS-2, try that, and you'll risk frying you components. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
