The Active List is up and running and will be until my system has to be shutdown or my cable goes out so...

Please understand first that I am new to ICQ and to this service. If you have questions, please post here b/c I have to learn about this. If I do have something set incorrectly, please email me at daveleau@yahoo.com

thanks
Dave

Let me know if it is set up right. Noone has joined as of yet so...

To join,

Set ICQ to Advanced Mode
Click on the red and yellow icon (ICQ 2000a) that has AL in it
Add the number

Is there no way I can join, having icq99b???
I got plus thrown over it, and quite frankly I enjoy it!!

I had icq 2000 before, but no more of that, I don't like it!!!

Isn't there another way???

99b can do it. Just hit the Show Active List button at the top there. Then click the Find/Add An ICQ ActiveList button. Then just enter the number up there that Dave wrote, and the rest is self explanitory.

I'm with you....I hate 2000. Atleast the alpha, haven't given it another try. It's too cluttered for my likeing.

Ok I woke up this morning and my system had rebooted and gave me a WPE. I thought it was wierd b/c it is cool in my house now. System rebooted but only posted the CPU and never got to memory test

So what I am trying to say is the active list will be put on hold until I can get this resolved.

Dave,

If you keep having problems, and/or get too frustrated with it, I'd be more than happy to run it.

I have a quick little ADSL connection which doesn't experience too much traffic, and the system it's on is really stable. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

It was up and running all day. I must have had it set wrong. I set it to where anyone can join so it should be ok now.
Sorry
Dave

Found out the problem was bad ram AGAIN! It was name brand stuff so I can get a refund.

I am trying to join, but it never joins, it says requesting list membership, and it never does..........

daveleau

Grrr. What could be wrong? Auraedge? Any ideas? Or anyone? I have set all of the settings that I can find to let people join. I did have problems with the software crashing when I tried restarting it after closing it. I have to re-register it each time for it to work. This is beginning to be a bit frustrating. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I will say that for the next 15- 20 minutes, I will be down while I try to figure out which piece of RAM was bad of the two I removed.
Dave

daveleau
05-20-2000, 10:59 PM
Well I just stopped it and started it to test its stability and it started fine. Now I have to test the ram so...give me 15-20.
Dave

Back up and running with all RAM. Very wierd no lockups or anything. Only thing I can think of with the symptoms is that something may have been knocked loose. Oh well. I bet my cat did it b/c she loves the back of my computer.
Try the active list again or make suggestions as to what settings I should change to get you guys in.
Thanks

What could be wrong? Could it be ZA or BID or something? I am connected to it via ICQ2000a (from the same computer which probably means nothing http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif)

daveleau
05-21-2000, 12:25 AM
After a few hours of testing, it is back up again. Whenever I reboot, the AL Server 2000 has to be re-registered, otherwise the software crashes. Pretty shoddy piece of work.

Won't let me join either-does someone have to authorize me or is there a pw?

AuraEdge
05-21-2000, 07:50 AM
Dave, can you connect to your own list thru your own comp?
Sounds like you can..which is kinda wierd.
I had ZA on high, but I didnt have BID, when i ran the list.
I agree, that the software is really shoddy tho

I cann`t joinup either it just says be able to join next time it`s online?

Yeah, mine jsut keeps saying joining list, but it never does.

daveleau
05-21-2000, 01:35 PM
Yes it is set to allow it to act as a server in ZA. It is set to allow anyone to join w/o a password. If anyone needs the PW I can email it to you. I am a memeber of it and it lets me join. When I start it up it send the auto response message I have set up. I have it set so it does not work behind a proxy. Any ideas?

Still can't join... It will sit there saying, "Joining Active List" for forever and a day, until it finally times out and says something to the effect of "Can't Establish ActiveList Connection."

http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I'll try again l8er.

No yet. So far I am the only member http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif This software does seem to be quite buggy. It needs tweaking every time it has anything changed. They have so much coinfidence in it that they send a utility along with it that fixes broken ActiveList software. I am open to suggestions.

i was one of the people who set up the first with aura edge. The software for it is absolutly appaling i would crasg virtually all the time when it was running.

If this active list never comes around my not setup a page on sysopt on which people can enter their icq numbers. To let other people contact them for some quicker talking and/or immediate help.

Sparki's the one who founded the first list...it ran okay and people could join, but software would crash all the time...and since he had a unreliable connection, i opted to administrate and serve it..but even then, the software lost the list like twice a week, and i started up back at 0 members.
I think we had best wait til the activelist server software gets out of beta to version 1.00. Then we can get a reliable list...til then, even if we can get people to join, its still all going to fall apart.

I really hate to sound like a pessimist..God knows I'm not usually like that, but I think it would be the wisest disicion right now.
Dave, you can get first dibs in hosting it when it does, if your still want to.

Yeah, HardOCP's Activelist is runnin great, I got it on my ICQ, I got his, and ours, then only difference between the two is thiers works http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I dont got no iea on who is running it tho

daveleau
05-23-2000, 08:56 AM
I am thinking it is one of two things...
Either they are using Active List 99 instead of 2000
or
it has something to do with my security programs, which I believe I have set correctly (ZA, BID, Jammer and Tauscan) ZA is set to allow AL2K to act as a server. No problems ICQing or performaing any other activity.
