If you disable all screen output, then the only way you know that the program is running is either looking at CPU usage and seeing it's at 100% even when the computer is doing 'nothing' or by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del and seeing Dnetc in the list of running programs. Nothing appears in Systray.

I'm running Win ME at home and have configured ME to run the client automatically at startup and disabled client's screen output, so my housem8s don't shut the client down all the time http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif They just don't know it's there.

Now, there's the issue of updating buffers... That's up to you how you do this, but I set the client to download a shed load of work - enough to keep it busy for a month or so of continuous crunching. If I want to check the status of the buffers, I change the Dnetc.ini file in notepad to say "disable screen output=no", then hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, close the client and then start it up again. It now displays the familiar screen output and I can fetch/flush as necessary. Change the .ini file back, restart the client and it's back to invisible mode again http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif (this is quicker than rebooting after you've changed the .ini file)

Another way, is to setup the client on the computer, then create a shortcut to the executable.

Edit the shortcut to include -install on the command line.

stop the client and double click the icon.

You should get a message that says you've installed the client as a service.

delete the shortcut(of course empty the recycle bin too)

then reboot.

Or another way is to run one of the older GUI clients such as ver 432 like I run. You have an option to run it in "hidden" mode with no indication of anything on the screen.
