Then I found the cool one on the Digital Blasphemy site wich is cool. Go take a look:- http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/startups.shtml noresull 05-19-2000, 07:05 PM I want to know!!! John FrozenLiquidity 05-19-2000, 08:30 PM First is the still image. This isn't that hard. Go into paint or some other program that can save files as bitmaps. Make a new image with the size of 640 pixels by 400 pixels. Note: this image can only be 256 colors! Create your image (or just copy an image or something). Then save it as whatever you want, this is so you can go back and edit it if you wish. Then cut the width of the picture in half. In other words, instead of being 640 pixels accross, it will be 320 pixels. You image should now look squished, but don't worry. If windows knows anything, it knows how to display a boot screen (as long as you did it correctly). Make sure it is no more than 256 colors. Now you need to "Save As...", go to the C:\ directory and save it as "logo.sys". The file should be about 127kb. Now restart your computer, if you did this right, your boot logo should be displayed instead of that bland windows logo!!! If you have any problems, please contact me via E-mail "roguedarklighter@excite.com" or reply to this post. If you want to know how to make an animated boot logo, just say you do and check back here for instructions. Good luck! If you want to know how, reply to this post and I will give you the run-through. FrozenLiquidity FrozenLiquidity 05-20-2000, 02:04 PM Arrgh, I'm really busy today, may not be able to type up instructions, but I will try. FrozenLiquidity FrozenLiquidity 05-20-2000, 02:24 PM Hehe, I guess I could take 5 seconds and do it really quick... To make an animated startup screen... Note: Windows 98 uses a technique called palette animation to give bitmaps motion. In palette animation, there's no real movment or relocation of an image. It's actually just the palette(color) table numeric reference that changes, causing an optical illusion of motion. Manually creating animated bitmaps is rather complicated. Fortunately, you han download a sweet little program called LogoMania to help you. LogoMania is available from ZDnet, to go there, click the link below! http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=000OG1 (I hope that works!) Just unzip the files into a folder of your choosing. Run the program, you will find both a help file, and a tutorial. Follow the examples and instructions in these files to learn the animation process. Logomania will make sure that both the color depth and size of your animation will work under Windows 98. -Reference from: "Windows 98; Hints & Hacks" by Dean Andrews 1998 Que Corporation blah blah blah... One other thing I would like to make a note of (this is for those of you that have already dug into the program)is that when you are creating your boot up bitmap, as you should alreay know, the pixel in the lower-left should be the same color as the other pixels you want to be transparent. But do this AFTER you resize the bitmap, because when you resize the bitmap, the colors will sorta blend, and it will not work correctly. If you have questions, post em' here! Good luck & Enjoy! FrozenLiquidity FrozenLiquidity 05-22-2000, 11:30 AM Man this forum moves fast... Anyway, above is the instructions for making your own animated Windows 98 boot logo for those of you who missed it.
