When aircraft first came out people said it would be impossible to ever break the sound barrier. Now that's being said about going faster than light. The way I understand it, the faster you go, the more power it will take to go a little bit faster and so on up till infinity, and you'll still be under the speed of light. Anybody think we'll ever find a way to break the light barrier like we did the sound barrier?

P.S. I just crawled out of bed right before I posted this, so I'm not quite awake yet.

Actually the sound barrier was broken long before aircraft were around. Everyone has tried or at least seen a device that the average man can use to break the sound barrier... What device you ask? A gun.

With regards to your question... Yes, but not in our time.

Actually, before that, there was the whip. The crack being heard is the tip being accelerated past the sound barrier; a mini sonic boom if you will.
