Priority of Ie5

Hi folks, i have a question: is there a way to change the priority (don't know if it's the correct word), of IE5?, i mean when i'm on irc or visiting a ftp site, etc when IE5 opens a new page the window "pop ups" over the program i'm working on. this is specially anonyng when chatting. any ideas? thanks in advance.
