I took a chance to work for a small but growing company. Their stock had plumeted and the sales this quarter were virtually non-existant. Since I have only worked for them for 5 weeks, I was the first to go. I am dissapointed, but more than that worried. I am getting married in 3 weeks and do now know what my job outlook will be. I have almost finished my MCSE, had 2 tests left and was going to wait until after the wedding to finish them. I have 4 years of college but did not finsh that. I am debating going back to finish my degree, but at the same time I have to support my fiance through medical school. I do not know which way to turn at the moment. Taking all suggestions. Thanks for listening to my sob story, you guys are my second family. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

My degree was in acct./marketing. I do not want to finish in acct. but I could do marketing in about a year of school. Since I maid decent amount of money last year, the school will probably make me pay most of it or I can take out loans.

How long to get your accounting degree?
That will open more doors initially than marketing degree. Acctg. is always useful.
Do whatever gets the graduation quicker.
What career are you looking for?
IT positions are obtained. mainly from experience, with college grad having a leg up on competition.
(Unless they are looking for CS graduate)
Good Luck

Keep your chin up! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif You'll get through it and in a few years you'll look back and it won't seem as bad. With the economy the way it is now, people are begging for workers. You'll find a job.

Sorry to hear of your job loss. If you don't take chances once in a while, like working for a small company, then you may miss out on the big one someday. Keep the faith brutha. Congrats on the marriage! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Weren't you in tech support for an ISP before? Sorry if I have you confused with someone else. I have no doubt you will land another job with no problem if you are that close to having your MCSE and having industry
experience.
What part of the country do you live in?
Just remember that when one door closes, another opens up, and it may have took working for the one company a short time to set you on the path to finding a really good job.

I feel for you on this. this is why I like the fact I'm selfemployed and have been for over 12 years now. but, look at it this way.
like my momma always said everything happens for a reason. and later you or them will relieze it was there loss and your gain. here are some site's I look at from time to time. this is my favorite:
http://www.headhunter.net/JobSeeker/Index.htm?zbid=2000051915083421r8r8a0 http://www.jobbankusa.com/search.html http://www.guru.com/ http://www.dice.com/ http://www.jobsearchengine.com/
I've even heard of IT employer's giving away bmw/mersedies benz, big cash bonus's ect. just for signing on with them ect.
always take a down fall as a learning experence and move on to the next step. good luck and I hope you the best. and look at the bright side of it. you will get the time to spend with your new bride. for after the new job comes in. you might have wished you had the time.
And CONGRADS on the new life of marriage. and I wish the two of you a very wonderfull and fulling life together ect.

Lay-offs are just a fact of life. It is no big deal, really! Go collect some unemployment and find another job.
You are probly better off anyhow.

Just one more year? It means a lot to some companies that you have a bachelors (sometimes they really don't care in what). I say go for it!
BTW, congrats (in advance) on getting married. Man, I wish I could meet some nice girl who's in Medschool...whew a doctor!

Sounds like a tough spot to be in, but don't ever give up. Keep trying and you'll get thru the rough spots. With your girl behind you and you behind her, you can never lose. Just be young and happy. All things will come in there time....All you need is love ( and a few bucks in your pocket) Best of luck!! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

sorry to hear.
congrats on your new found love http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Even though you may not have a degree in accounting/marketing yet, but with 4 years of education and some experience to back yourself up you shouldn't worry about job availability, especially with the strong economic growth that US is experiencing these days.
If you've got qualifications and experience, you'll find a job anywhere with ease http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Wish you well my friend and congrats once again! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Everyone:
Thanks for the support. I feel better today about it than I did last week. I can get my old job back at Swbell if I want, but I think I am going to go full time in school until I get my degree. With that and the MCSE done, I should be good for the job market. I may not be back until after my wedding, I will try to post pics when I get them. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
