I have a series of five files that have the extensions .r00 thru .r04. They are all one program when combined but how do I unarchive, unzip or whatever to get to the files in these?

I have thought that maybe the extensions were changed just for sequential reference purposes. They might be .zip, .ace or another archive type file. I suppose I will change the extension on them and see if I can get access. Any ideas would be appreciated.

They are rar files. You can get winrar from www.rarsoft.com (http://www.rarsoft.com) . Get that, open the r00 files with it and click on "extract" or "extract to.." and select a directory.

you need the original RAR file (the first one). The reason why it has an R00, or R01, is because the file was split. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'll give WinRAR a try. I had originally thought it was a .rar file set but I have WinACE and it did not recognize the file when I used "RAR files" as the type of file to recognize.

Hiho, Hiho, it's off again I go. . .

Back again. It appears to be a fault with WinACE. I am extracting now.

Thanks so much.

even if you have WinRAR, if you do not have the original file "the one with the extention xxx.RAR" then you cannot open it. just to let you know. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'll repost in about 2 hours wtp. The first four extracted fine but I am downloading the .r04 file (9.76MB on a dial-up, can you say, "sucks!") which WinRAR is prompting for now.

Later. . .

I thought the first of a rar archive should have the extension .RAR and you need that first file in order to access the others?

Well, I found the .rar file that wtp was saying I needed to locate. I am still in the process of downloading the other seven files at 10MB each, on that same DUN connection. What was that word we learned yesterday class? That's right, "sucks". Ididn't access the rest of the file server so I thought it was only five files.

Thanks again.
