Well I finally have a couple of computers that I am willing to run the RC5 client on here at home and want to join the SYSOPT team effort...What do I need to do? any special configuration that I need to do?

I have
1 AMD k6-2 350 @448@2.4volts
1 celeron 333a @500@2.2volts
1 Celeron 333a stock

I think I can add a little bit to the effort....Just let me know what I need to do! Thanks

Check out www.sysopt.com/rc5team.html (http://www.sysopt.com/rc5team.html) . It should have all the info you need to join the team.

Oh, and when you're setting up your clients, you can set them to use 24.72.9.177 port 8080 as the keyserver and automatically have your stats posted on the SysOpt/Tweakit PProxy website found here:
http://24.72.9.176/rc5/

It's great to have you onboard. Welcome and Happy Cracking.

Thanks Joel!

I forgot I also put it on my "little" pent 100mhz (my file/print server)!

I dont even have a monitor on this system but it runs 24/7...I use pcanywhere to interreact with it.

Will get them all configured to use 24.72.9.177 on port 8080!

Welcome aboard!

If you want, you can also add your cracking computer's stats to the archive.

Wow! your #1 onthe team.... How do I go about putting my computers into the stats? Will it do it automaticly when it does a flush? I have the clients setup to use the SYSopt server as Joel said to.

Thanks

Good luck on winning the $1000 contest.

I got a free Celeron 400A in the Sysopt/TweakIt contest that ended the other month and I can still win the $1000 also.

**Remember, I'm hosting another contest, the prizes aren't that great, but it's better than nothin...

Sign up and get info here:

http://www.execpc.com/~spdsk8r/contest.html

BTW Joel, have you found any of the parts you were going to send? I could still use the AT PS and K5 if you'd be willing to sell them!

With just these two parts, I could contribute another ~350 blocks/day.

Maybe more if the PS can handle the draw!

Mntsnow, the computer stats are seperate from the pproxy stats for the time being. In the future i'll look to see if it's possible to merge the user lists. So for now you have to add yourself to the archive you have to register then enter in the info for each computer.

I might look good being at the top of the archive list, but there are still a lot of ppl that could knock me around if they add there farms to the archive. hint, hint. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Got to see if I can get this P90 up by tonight.

Your computers are already in the stats, last time I looked you were at #51 with 131 blocks.

Here's the stat's page by email:

Virus,

I see what your saying...hmmmm I might have enough parts laying around here to get a couple of "headless" systems together (486-66 and pentium 233) These would be only "crunchers" http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Will see what I can come up with

I have a few of those running...

All you have to do is:

1) set up a system with a motherboard, CPU, 2MB RAM, and a floppy

2) on a full computer system, format a disk from dos using

format a: /s

this will copy command.com and make a boot sector

3) make an autoexec.bat with this line:

a:\rc5des.exe

4) download the dos client to your hard drive, then extract it to your floppy

5) using your windows version, download a large amount of blocks and cut and past the file "buff-in.rc5" from the d.net folder to the floppy

6) when you want to flush, remove the disk and put it in your main system, cut and paste "buff-out.rc5" from the floppy to your windows d.net folder and connect to the net - this will flush your blocks

** Make sure you run the dos version from the disk on a computer with a monitor first so you can enter the email address which will be saved to your blocks - if you don't do this first, you won't get credit!!

You can then use the disk over and over, just cut and paste the files buff-in and buff-out

** Don't cut buff-in or buff-out.des this is the wrong file

If you have any more questions, let me know

If I join does my computer have to be online all the time or can it still crack offline and dump the blocks when I'm online?

Hi,
No it can be offline as long as you want. You just tell the client to download a few hundred blocks (just a kb approx each), and it will stay cracking the blokcs till you go online, when it will send the processed ones, and download fresh blocks.

When you get set up use out proxy server. Instructions on how to use it are at http://24.72.9.176/rc5

Yes, you can have the client dialup, dump, then disconnect or dump whenever you're online.

To have it dump when your online. Use the CLI version of the client, since I don't think the lurk fuction works on the GUI vesion yet.

after you install the cli client and run it. It will show up a menu on config options.
First and most important. Goto 'General Client Options' then set 'Your email addresss '.

Go back then into 'Buffer and Buffer Update Options'. Then set 'Frequently Update empty buffers' to 'yes'.

Set 'Packet fetch/flush threshold' to a higher number like 100 (for a below 300mhz cpu) or 200 (for a 300+ cpu). If you don't connect at least once a day, set these higher.

Proceed into 'Keyserver<->client connectivity options'.

Then set 'Modem detection options' to 'Dialup detection ONLY mode'.

Now your finished setting up the modem to dump when your online.

Here is how to set it to use the teams pproxy server.

While in the same menu, goto 'Automatically select a distributed.net keyserver?' and set it to 'no'.

Now you have a 'Keyserver hostname' option. Set it to '24.72.9.177'.

Set your 'Keyserver port' to '8080'.

Now keep pressing '0' until you get out of config mode.

Bkehoe - use 24.72.9.177 (http://24.72.9.177) (official) instead of 24.72.9.176/rc5/. Since that entrance will be going off line today/tomorrow for server upgrade.

Well, I personally have had no probs with the Lurk function of the GUI client... and I used it for about 6 months while I was using NetZero (don't ask http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif). GUI lurk should work fine.

Well, i was on SETI@Home, but that got boring http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. So now im gonna use the K6-2 300 (428 right now) with rc5, Hopefully I'll have a P133 and an old 486 cracking it soon too (got both at my house, just gotta get them reconfigured)

I got rc5 installed and configured last night at about 3 in the morning. When I increase the buffers do I have to do it for both rc5 and des or just rc5? I have the Win32 GUI version configured for modem dialup (non autodial). My computer is a 300mhz AMD k6-3D that I've overclocked to 337mhz,couldn't get it to overclock any higher http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif with 64mb pc-100 ram. By the way am I the only one from Alaska on the team?

DES is a very fast paced contest and is most efficient with a small buffer (1-10 with 24/7 connect). We won't see the next DES contest for at lease 7 months. So you don't need to change it.

I'm from canada, does that count?
