Win98: My Computer - gone nuts?

I'm having some problems with the "display details" option when you want to see files inside a folder. Normally I use list option, but sometimes when I want to scan file sizes of a lot of files in a directory, it's easier to switch to detailed viewing. Allow the following snapshots to explain themselves:
